And yes, a few of these paintings have a ghostlike feeling. I sometimes think of paintings having sounds - and these "sound" like far of footsteps, or closed rooms filled with dust where you can vaguely hear the noise from the people outside. (perhaps that sounds a bit strange, but I always associate images with sound. For instance Michaelangelo is for me always the sound of thunder.)
Oh, I absolutely agree! I also often associate images with sounds (and I agree about Michelangelo) and even smells. This must be the way our brain works - connected centres are engaged together.
