Re: your LJ crisis and the friending - I feel your torment! Sometimes, even when mutual friends say something about feeling awkward about friending, I think it must be about me, even though logically, they wouldn't let me see that post if I was the person in question, but I still get all anxious for a bit! Hee. Then I remember that it's not All About Me.
I really think that if these people had a problem with being friended by you (though why would they??), they'd lock posts. If you enjoy reading their posts and they're public, I'd keep them.
