alexandral: (Rome - Vorenus - priceless face)

Rome in pictures: Many faces of Lucius Vorenus

My head/heart is full of "Rome"-related thoughts. When one starts thinking about future plot developments before dozing of to sleep one must admit that this is serious. And even more so, this week I re-watched my favourite scenes from season 1 and this helped to add fuel to the fire. :D

And this is where posting a collection of pictures helps, because for me life is largely about visuals. I have collected 35 (!!) screencaps involving mostly Vorenus. But of course Pullo is there too because Vorenus and Pullo are one single unit for me.

So, for your perusal: Vorenus, Pullo, sweat, blood, daggers, long pale eyelashes and blue eyes.

Also because "Rome" still occupies my thoughts, I welcome any requests for "Rome" icon making - choose your favourite screencap, let me know if you like a particular text and I will make an icon this weekend.

I have similar coloring to him =)

And so does gorgeous Toby Stephens.:D I am just so keen on this feature in men - it adds some vulnerability which is absolutely fitting a strong man. :D

I am so glad you like!!!!

The sixth one from the end, when Lucius and Niobe were enjoying a rare moment of happiness... Sigh.

I am missing Niobe terribly, she seemed to be such an important part of what Vorenus really was. I was re-watching that bit where Titus says "just leave her if she makes you so unhappy" and Lucius answers "I rather die". ** sniff **

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
And what better way for Titus to repay Lucius for rescuing him from the gladiatorial ring than to find his children and give them back?

And then they all are going to live as one family again. :D

But one bad premonition/prediction I feel is that I don't think Titus and Eurene will live happily ever after. But we will see.

Oh goodness, Toby Stephens is incandescent. You're right, it does add a little vulnerability which looks great on a man as stern as Vorenus.

Speaking of Toby Stephens, have you seen "The Rising: The Legend of Mandal Pandey"--a Bollywood movie that he was in? He's BFFs with the hero of the story (played by the intense and charismatic Aamir Khan) and they start off the movie with a wonderful shirtless wrestling scene.

I am so glad you like it!!!

blessing-the-farm!!

First time I saw it I cried - it was so full of premonition that something is going to happen. ** sigh **

Oh, Alexandra, I'm SO WORRIED! I read an interview with Chiara Mastalli on the HBO website and she was talking about how Eirene and Pullo are very straightforward people and "pure" (I think she means honest and not manipulative) and that makes it dangerous for them in the world that is so dishonest and crooked. I too fear for Eirene!

Maybe Lucius's children will live happily with Lyde and Eirene in the countryside and whenever they are not having adventures, Lucius and Titus will visit them :P (Of course it will not happen this way, but I must console myself a little bit!)

Well, Toby has much darker reddish-brown hair and you can always see his eyelashes and eyebrows. That's why he's my "redheaded exception" to the rule that I don't normally have the passion for the ginger-colored men.

I love Vorenus as a character, but something about how I can't see any eyelashes on him kind of stops me from wanting to rip his toga off with my teeth (or you know, something less weird :P) Hee! But he has beautiful bone-structure, that is for sure!

I think I also love Pullo because Ray Stevenson has very similar coloring to my husband. (Although he is considerably taller than KoT!) But the dark hair and green/hazel eyes just ... yes. I love that!

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! You are my hero!! :o)

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh YES! I have seen "The Rising: The Legend of Mandal Pandey", it was in the movie theaters around here. And YEESSS! the wrestling scene is most excellent and reminds me of interaction between Pullo and Vorenus. :D I hope they will have a different ending, though.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2007-01-26 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Now you mentioned this, my dearest is also quite similar to Pullo, in colouring (though his hair are almost black) and in figure. And even more, in character.(Not that bit where Pullo kills people, but in caring, forgiving and insightful nature)

I don't know why I am so "OMPH! I am dying!" for Vorenus. I think it was his personality first that I liked. I am often like this - a gorgeous man without suitable personality does not bear any appeal to me and even non-good looking guy can win me over if he has something in his character that I find irresistible (remember, I like Hound). :D

Yeah, I think it was when Pullo was singing to Baby Lucius that I just decided I loved him to pieces - and that made him sexier. In fact, Pullo is not at all my usual fictional "type" - I tend to prefer the leaner, finer-boned and very angsty guys (err, basically, the Lucius Vorenuses :P) On paper, I would be all over the Lucius, and much less interested in the Titus - but something about Pullo and how Ray Stevenson plays him just makes my heart go pitter-pat and I can't figure it out.

And no one ever has to justify why they find someone totally droolworthy - especially not to me, darling, because I have some VERY ODD CHOICES.

This is not to say that I don't adore Lucius, because I do - I just don't get that squirmy feeling in my tummy about him :P (That's the GOOD squirmy-tummy, not the bad one, which is caused by people like Erastes Fulmen!)

I do think that the show's heart and soul is with the Pullo/Vorenus story - if it were not for them, we would have, I think, another kind of historical "lifestyles of the rich and decadent"; with them, we have this astonishingly layered and beautiful relationship and one of the very rare depictions of a true and lasting friendship. So, I do love Lucius lots and lots because you can't have strawberries without cream :P

I am glad you liked!! Vorenus is gorgeous indeed!

EEEEEEE! And this is why I love Pullo to bits too. I think it was a very winning combination to have two great but very different guys share the main part in the show. Very winning for female fans. :D And great for the both actors who weren't so popular before "Rome".

if it were not for them, we would have, I think, another kind of historical "lifestyles of the rich and decadent";

This is true, "Rome" just found that perfect and less often explored then romantic relationship theme of male friendship. But I like the other characters too, even little ones like Posca.

EEEEEEE! I am so glad you like! Why oh why men look so good when they are suffering??

I am glad you like!! Doesn't he look exceptionally attractive with all that angst and suffering?

Thank you!! Nice to meet you!!!!!!!!

I read an interview with Chiara Mastalli on the HBO website and she was talking about how Eirene and Pullo are very straightforward people and "pure" (I think she means honest and not manipulative) and that makes it dangerous for them in the world that is so dishonest and crooked.

This feels very ominous - when creators start talking how their characters are too good to live. In the meantime, I really hope (I think I could see it in Vorenus/Eurene scenes) that she loves him back and strongly as he does.

[identity profile] baleanoptera.livejournal.com 2007-01-27 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
And the way they were talking about dying was so matter-of-factly too.

Hmm..this got me thinking. There is a noticeable change in attitude towards Vorenus' outlook on death in this episode, and in "Son of Hades". True, he doesn't want to die stranded on the island - but he doesn't fear it and feels like he has lived an honorable life.

Now in "Son of Hades" I get the feeling that he is slightly suicidal. Not that he wants to kill himself, but that he wants to die and that his whole outlook on dying has changed dramatically. Am I making sense here?

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2007-01-27 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, definitely. I was saying the same thing to [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns. Vorenus wants to die. I wasn't sure what the Roman Gogs view on suicide was, but as according to [Bad username or site: queenof thorns @ livejournal.com] it was not forbidden. I was thinking at first that Vorenus hasn't killed himself yet because suicide is forbidden.

But if suicide wasn't forbidden by the Gods, I think that Vorenus reached the point where he thinks his life equals Hell and he wants to challenge the Gods. Because they took everything from him. Which is a scary, scary thing.

Bad username is [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns

[identity profile] baleanoptera.livejournal.com 2007-01-27 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It's very, very scary. I mean if Vorenus had simply lost faith in the Gods then that would be one thing, but instead his faith is still there - but has been twisted and dark - and that is in many ways even worse.

I'm half in dread and half in extreme anticipation for the next episode! There is the Vorenus strikes Pullo scene which I'm very nervous about.
