Dorama/anime update, but mostly about “1 Percent of Anything”

"1 Percent of Anything"
Sweetest fluffiest drama which is promising to become my Korean "It started with a kiss" (with the Korean depth of emotions as additional plus). I have seen 6 episodes out of 26 so far.

He: Lee Jae-in (Kang Don Won) Young and successful businessman with some very cute temper issues.

She: Kim Da-hyun (Kim Jung Hwa) Bright and kind school teacher who helps older people on buses and is loyal to death to her friends. Plus she is adorably scatter-headed.

Story: Da-hyun meets Jae-in’s grandfather (a head of a powerful corporation) on a bus, gives him a seat and helps him to get to his late wife’s grave. And I don’t blame grandfather for he decides to bring his grandson and Da-hyun together, with the help of his death will. BTW, he is the same grandfather as in “My girl” and though he is quite a tough cookie in “1 percent of anything”, it feels from the very beginning that he really wants everyone’s best and adores Jae-in (in his way).

What is so wonderful so far : Much sparks and tantrums between the main couple, and OMPH! Some very cute secondary romantic pairings in sight.

They had a day of fun together, involving classical music concerts and discovering each other’s pet name. And she forgotten her keys in his car:

And then of course, a car passes by and he is so protective:

But it leaves them in the difficult position

And OMPH!!!! He starts to lean for a kiss and the whole scene is adorable and sweet and funny at the same time because as he leans closer she leans back and she has a hilarious expression on her face as if she is thinking "What is happening right now??"

And it is all happening in stages and lasts for some time, and it is making me so happy:

And then she kicks him!! Way to go girl!!! (though I would have not been able to withstand :D)

And as the drama develops and Jae-in starts to change he becomes unbearably cute. More Pictures

I checked the ending and EVERYONE is getting married.!! May be 3 couples!! (or may be 4??)

Hana Yori Dango Is wonderful, I think this is the first Japanese drama after "Kurosagi" which really "gets" me. And I think this is mainly because of incredible powers of Hanazawa Rui who is beyond cool. How cool , just let me count: White clothes, graceful movements, mysterious demenour and heart-wrenching romantic storyline. Plus he reads books all the time. :D

Ayashi no Ceres I finished it, it gets all thumbs up from me (and Toya is my first and favourite anime character). Thank you

meganbmoore for the rec. There were bits that disturbed me, especially that Celestial being mummy kept in the cellar and the fact that this mummy was producing milk for it’s children for years.

The other strange thing was that it reminded me BSG’s "Farm" in a way, in the part where humans were trying to reproduce Celestial beings by all means. And some very violent means that could be only called indirect rape, and even though it was portrayed like something terrible it was not something easy to watch. I felt like the reproduction storyline was very strange.

AHH Dong-Won looks adorable in 1%. He looks great in a suit too :swoon:. I haven't seen a really fluffy drama in awhile. I will need to check it out sometime. There's so many dramas to watch. Is this tying you down until Snow Queen/Ep4 HYD? :) I really love HYD too. I can't squee enough about it. Suddenly every Friday and the day that subs comes out feels like x-mas now. I love that he reads all the time too. I wonder if he actually reads those books..

Oh, I am sure he does, how otherwise he would have been so wise beyond his years?? It is always the same - when Sojiro and Akira don't know what to do, Rui just says something very quietly and to the point. :D I hope Shizuka IS coming in two weeks!! ** shakes her fist **

I agree he always says the best things. I think she may show up next episode. Gah, this episode is going to be killer. Hopefully we find out what happened between her and Shizuka. I wonder what she wrote to him and made him pull out his violin. I think the main thing that driving me crazy is Rui saying I like you Makino and then the kiss. It makes me gasp every time i rewatch the promo. I'm a dork I saw the promo about three times ^_^

I'm glad you're enjoying 1%. Over the weekend, I enjoyed Kimi Wa Petto and I'm about half way done with Lovers (Korean Drama). :)

It doesn't seem like she wrote any good news. :D But I want him to be a prt of the happy relationship so much, and I know Lei fell in love with Shancai in "Meteor Garden", but I hope this is going to be different. Rui is so awesome that I don't want him to suffer even a little bit.

I hope this is all will be his cunning way to bring Makino and Domyoji together. I remember, Rui did look very sad when he was trying to ring Shizuka - and why would he be if not for still being in love with her?

Yeah, I don't think it's good news either. She has to be nuts to dump Rui. I want him in a happy relationship and not suffer either though he does it so beautifully :) That would be an interesting plan. I like him with Makino though. They are really cute but they aren't OTP of course. I would like to see them date a bit though. I wouldn't mind another one of those moments when he got to close to her and they fell on the couch ^_^. Yeah, I think he has to still love Shizuka. Oh yes, this was very cute. But I can't believe he is serious. He has such a good insight into Makino's feeling and even not insightful person can see that she is still in love with D. And he is such a good friend. Again, anyone can see how crazy D. still is about Makino.

In MG ite went this way:

-- Somewhere in the middle Lei went to Paris to live with the MG version of Shizuka, then he came back very sad because it didn't work out. This was the last of MG version of Shizuka, she wasn't shown ever since.

-- Lei was really really sad for some time, and though I like Vic Zhou very very much, he was a little "too sad" for me.

-- Then the events similar to HYD 2 happened, Lei fell in love with Shincai (MG version of Makino). But because he figured out that she still loves DMS (MG version of D. ) he gave up his feelings and helped them instead.

But I always wished there was something more for him, plus I like Rui considerably more then Lei. :D

really hope he get's a big leading role after this. He really deserves it. I think the only leading role he's had so far is Detective Conan a short special drama.

Thanks for telling me what happened in MG! It makes me want to watch MG less actually. I think one of the things I love most about HYD is Rui. Thanks for the picspam links. I actually already saw those awhile ago when I first discovered him. :) I just started watching Gokusen last night and he plays immature high schooler with shoulder length blonde hair. Quite the difference from Rui. We get to see episode 4 today! I'm so excited for it. --Unfortunately, Snow Queen is still at timing and QC. :(

Vic Zhou (who played Lei) is also beyond any definition of hot, and Jerry Yan who plays DMS is actually THE HOTTEST thing ever. It is just for me Vic Zhou is must hotter in "Mars" then in "Meteor Garden". I hope you will get to see "Mars" . :D And you should watch "Meteor Garden", it is priceless and fabulous. May be I should do a picspam of "Meter Garden" F4 today, they actually much better looking then their Japanese counterparts. **gasp** :D

I've seen pictures of Vic and Jerry. They are pretty. I'll have to put Mars and MG on my watch list. I swear the list grows more than finishes. *gasp* better looking that HYD F4?? I've only seen the tiny picture of MG f4 on dramawiki and I can't tell. I really like HYD f4 though. Let's see if you can sway me with images lol ^_^ I hope Snow Queen eps would be released together too. I would stop everything to watch it all at once :)

So far I like it. Lee Seo Jin plays a gangster which is really hot.^_^ I also like the female lead, Kim Jung Eun (Lovers in Paris). So far, they are just starting to fall for each other so the angst is starting to build. I think I'll have to finish it before I can say if I really like it or not (hopefully this weekend). I'll come back and tell you :)

Sorry, took me forever to reply back. I didn't get really emotionally attached to it as other dramas. I like the chemistry between the leads but other than that the drama feels dry to me. It's 20 episodes too. I pretty much finished it for sake of finishing. I'm kind of disappointed that it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Really drove me crazy how I couldn't get into it. I think HYD2 and Snow Queen has ruined me forever for showing me the great things about dramas ^_^

I am torn. On the one hand, I have a deep and abiding love for Lee Seo Jin. OTOH, I was leery of the premise to start with.

Lee Seo Jin is very cute in it. I think one of my reasons to finish out the drama was to watch him. I guess you could try out an episode or two to see if you like it. I was just overall bored most of the time and annoyed by the poor plot/secondary characters. I had to watch the last episode on youtube because I didn't get to finish downloading it. Other people on there seemed to love it. I really think I'm ruined from SQ/HYD. I still kept the episodes. If you need to download it, i'll be happy to upload it for you.

actually, i can get it for about $12.50 and watch it on my lovely 24" TV.

I like Lee Seo Jin...he's not "conventionally" handsome...his face is too strong for that, and then there's the dimples...but he's so charming and charismatic.

Wow, that's really cheap. Where do you buy it from? I agree that Lee Seo Jin isn't conventionally handsome. I love his dimples. I really watched this drama for shallow reasons mostly to oogle at him in suits and the dimples. Oh I love when he laughs too...sorry for babbling ^_^

I get the majority of my dramas from someone named reddashay, but they don't take new customers(bad experiences in the past)

if you wanna be REALLY shallow, in Damo, he likes to practice his swordsmanship shirtless(also very good In Shadowless Sword)

he looks very different in Damo. While the series is about the girl, Chae-Ohk(Ha Ji Won--my favorite korean actress because of Damo) it's Hwangbo Yoon(Lee Seo Jin--same thing, only actor) I actually feel a bit of sympathy for Kim Mon Joon, who plays the other guy...he's also amazing in it(the entire cast is borderline perfect) but all the attention seems to go to Ha Ji Won and Lee Seo Jin, as it was primarily their character's story, whereas he's more of a peripheral character, in comparison(not that his character is a peripheral character, but...you know...)

I can't remember where I read it. Probably in one of those Hanadan posts in dorama chat. Yeah, Lee Seo Jin looks really different with a beard. I like Ha Ji Won. I've seen probably four of her movies already just no dramas yet. I often feel bad for the third guy too. Damo keeps sounding more and more interesting :)

In Damo, it's really not as easy as saying "The guy" and "the other guy" But he's not part of my otp. Of his dramas I can get, though, he plays the other guy in one, and is the lead in another, but it sounds like an incest one...

Oh! I was thinking of watching Ireland for Hyun-Bin. I'm not a big fan of incest stories. The exception will be i'm dying to see MatsuJun's new movie. Thanks for explaining :)

Have you finished Ireland? I remember you said drama quite strange. I didn't want to watch it because it doesn't sound very good. I think my love for SQ keeps me happy for now that I don't need to watch his older dramas. :)

I skipped through "Ireland", but I didn't like the ending and the incest theme and also it was very bizzarre drama.

Ceres is rather dark...they left out a lot in the anime...partly because it would have changed the tone a fair bit, but i wish they'd left a lot more in...for one thing, Shuro, the singer, actually has a much more developed back story, and is semi-regular throughout.

I quite like the darkness. One thing that was worrying me were some jumps in the storyline. The one you mentioned before, with the singer, just came out of nowhere. And for the life of me I could not understand why people from C-project didn't just seize Aya and put he into some celestial-proof cage (they had some good chances), but let her wonder around without any serious supervision.

I think the Shuro ep was there so her fans wouldn't kill them. In the manga, they go hunting for other celestial descendants, and Shuro is one of the first ones they find. I love Shuro because, aside from Toya, she has has the most messed up past but she's the most together of them all, much like Gojyo in Saiyuki, and every time she shows up its like all their brains instantly get screwed on straight(probably because she'll either physically or verbally beat them up if they don't).

But as far as the jumps in general...basically, the first half covers about 4 books, and the second half the other 10(i suspect they originally planned it to be as long as Fushigi Yugi)

You could feel this - too many characters for a short amount of screen time.

I am so ready to start FY and even ** gasp ** pick up manga or two. I have never read it before - this will be a new experience!!

Well, I'll just toss out my 5 favorites, in order: Basara, Blade of the Immortal, Fruits Basket, HanaKimi, Wallflower

A few others high up there for me: Ceres, Rurouni Kenshin, W Juliet(actually, this series just wrapped up and I did a long-ish write up on it last week) Platinum Garden, Love Hina(this one is shonen and has a lot of eye candy for the guys, but is one of the best developed romances/coming-of-age stories I've read)

Except BotI they all heavily feature romances, and there's a fair bit of romantic angst in BotI, it's just not often the focus. It does, though, feature my eternal #1 manga love, Magatsu, though he has a bad habit of disappearing for multiple volumes(like now...)

Is there "Fruits basket" anime? Is this any good? I just remember seeing it. And another one caught my attention - "Kingdom of hearts"?

Kingdom Hearts I know squat about except that I think it involved a lot of disney characters and is based on a game.

Fruits Basket is also an anime *points to icon* which is very good. However, it only covers the first 6-7 books(can't recall off the top of my head) then made up it's own ending since it wasn't getting a second season. It features the best "made for the anime" endings of adapted anime I've seen. Fruits Basket stands out because it, often midpanel, transitions between incredible fluff and cuteness to gut wrenching angst, and often the same line will simultaneously make you smile and giggle and rip your heart out and stomp on it.

It's always one of the top few selling manga in the US, and usually is only beat by books whose anime is currently huge(Fruits Basket anime came out in the US before the manga did, or right when it started...the point is, it keeps its spot without relying on an anime that's endlessly hyped.)

Not that I have a very high regard for it or anything.

I am finally absolutely converted into Kang DOng Won love. I mean , I liked him in "Duelist", but it was too short to develop fully grown obsession. :D I must must see more of him.
