Aug. 11th, 2006 05:34 pm+ As any other UK Higher Education institution we submit our statistical returns at the end of September. This means that September is a very BUSY month for me. But again, it is not all bad because about this time last year statistical over-returnedness pushed me to the Internet delights and I found fantastically great
leecaps by fabulous
queenofthorns . And I had to join LJ in order to express all my glee about
leecaps.
+ There will be 1 year soon of my existence as a LJ person. It is great to meet all the wonderful and interesting people and this is the main reason I find LJ so enjoyable. But as the sideline, I was thinking this week that I feel LJ is helping me a great deal to develop communication skills and narrow my cultural gap of "alien" person in UK. I don’t know if I express this well – but I feel it!
+ Due to the crazy state of the world I had to watch something “nice and easy” yesterday. I watched “In her Shoes”. It is a romantic comedy about two sisters and their friendship. It was predictable and fluffy, but it hit a right chord with me. And I love Toni Colette. I laughed and cried and forgot the state of the world for a while.

+ I also treated myself to sushi. After all the food I saw in the
koalathebear recent posts I HAD TO DO IT. I had miso soup, noodles, chicken curry thing and sticky rice sweets. YUMMM!
+ I gave my “North and South” DVDs to my Russia friend. She is an English teacher and loves watching non-dubbed DVDs. YAY!!!!!!! North and South is going to conquer the world with LOVE.

Date: 2006-08-11 08:10 pm (UTC)Ira teaches English at the Polytechnic University and her mum (who I know well too and who is a lovely, lovely lady) used to teach English too. Ira said - "My mum and I like to watch non-dubbed films together". I can't wait to hear what they think about N&S.
I am so , so happy I have met YOU - and I raise my glass to broadening horizons!!!

Date: 2006-08-11 08:18 pm (UTC)EEEEEEEEE! This is the truly bestest idea I ever heard of! I watched it when it was broad casted on BBC with my friend and we had some good squeeing too :)

Date: 2006-08-12 12:04 am (UTC)I haven't seen In Her Shoes yet, but I will. Have you seen Toni Collette in Japanese Story? It's quite intense and different for her, even though she does so many different roles anyway. And as a bonus you get to see some fantastic country in Western Australia! Or Muriel's Wedding? (I'm never entirely sure how far Australian films get circulated, and always assume that it's not very far!)
MMmm- sushi. I guess it would be wrong to contemplate that before breakfast?!

Date: 2006-08-12 12:13 pm (UTC)I have seen both "Muriel's Wedding" and "Japanese Story". "Muriel's Wedding" is one of my all-time favourites, it is a real gem!! And I think it is popular everywhere - I know that one of my friends in Russia loves it very much too! I liked "Japanese Story" a great deal too, but it was probably the most upsetting film I have ever seen ;(. But I crave to visit Australia ever since I saw it - the landscapes were fabulous, totally out-of-this-world.
I guess it would be wrong to contemplate that before breakfast?!
Don't see anything wrong with THAT :)

Date: 2006-08-12 10:02 pm (UTC)I'm in the country and parts of it are indeed beautiful. (I could do with fewer rednecks, though. ARGH). I'm only 15 minutes away from a state park with great hiking and fishing and stuff, and where I am is all rolling fields... it's nice for walking.
Now if I could just get sushi and a better bookstore I'd be set.

Date: 2006-08-13 08:55 am (UTC)I like Ireland too. And your place sounds really nice ! Sushi is expanding like mad so we can hope it will open in your city one day - when I started working they didn't have shops in Leeds, now they have few - all opened recently. The one I go more often is "Yo" sushi http://www.yosushi.com/ in "HArvey Nichols". Ok - sushi is a good incentive to have the shop door opened for you!!!!!
