Warehouse 13: I love it!

I am still mostly doing RL things: spending the time with the family, eating cakes, shopping and enjoying myself. Tomorrow is the New Year Eve, the biggest holiday of the year in Russia. This year we are not going to Russia for the New Year holidays, we will be going there this summer instead, hopefully in time for the mushroom picking season (I LOVE MUSHROOMS).

I am just dropping by to post a happy ramble about "Warehouse 13". I tried the show last year, but for some reason the first season didn’t call to me immediately and I dropped it. This year my daughter wanted to watch the show together on holidays, and after dragging my feet a little bit I agreed! And how happy I am now that I did, especially after the two biggest let downs of this month: I mean the ending of "Hunger Games" book trilogy (I hopefully will tell you more once the good cheer period is over) and the ending of the season 3 of "Misfits". Now, the ending of the season 3 of Misfits was a Very Bad Ending of The Season, but really, I wasn’t too invested anyways.

But onto happier things! Unexpectedly, "Warehouse 13" is such a delight: gender balanced, funny, feel-good and stereotype-avoiding! Well, there was that one episode about Moscow, but I am going to forgive the show because otherwise this is like the good old times of good assembly cast shows! The abundance of fabulous and various female characters is particular nice. The abundance of characters that aren’t young and gorgeous, but are still interesting and engaging is very welcome too. Plus there are so many non-standard relationships in the show! Even women are having meaningful friendships! :D

This is exactly the kind of thing that makes my holidays perfect (we are already in the middle of the season 3) and makes me forget the disappointments of yesterday (Hunger Games, I mean you). All is not lost. If Sci Fi channel is continuing a show like this year after year – I have hope in the future of TV. :D And it is not as if there is anything particular special about "Warehouse 13" (apart from the gender balance which is indeed a rare thing).. It is .. just good fun!

PS: My daughter says that I am like Irene Frederic, and a little bit like Myka. :D And she sees herself as Claudia.

YAY! I'm glad you like it! I'm a fan of WH13 and Eureka (I love the xover eps between the 2) and I'm so happy you think it's good.

JSYK, WH13 was pulling awesome ratings. I think it was the Syfy show that pulled in the biggest numbers before Alphas and after Alphas premiered they were both getting great ratings.

It was your persistent reccing of both shows that made me interested in the first place. :D

I am practically proud of Sci Fi watchers. :D I mean - the show makers always tell us that "beautiful people sell, sex sells, this is why the shows are full of these stick thin very young people etc. etc", but in reality, the watchers like to see people like themselves, I think..

I am going back to Eureka too, I am going to get my daughter to watch it when I finish W13. I think shows like this are "good for her". :D

Hahaha, I'll gladly take all the blame. :)

I LOVE the whole cast and the character. I'm sooo ridiculously fond of Pete. And Claudia. And Mika. And...alskdjalsjd EVERYBODY. alsdkjklasjd

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-12-30 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
My daughter says that her dad (my husband :D) is like Pete. :D See - we have all the roles distributed in the family. I adore Pete. His every word and every phrase is a gem.

It is hard for me to decide who is my personal favourite because all the characters are very good.. Hmm. ** thinks ** may be Myka.

Does your husband have a brother by any chance?

IKR! I honestly can't make up my mind. One day I'm all about Pete, the next about Claudia and the next Myka and then I start all over again. *g* But yeah, Pete is love, I swear.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2012-01-05 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
hehehe! He does, but his brother is married too. In fact, all his siblings have good families.

I am the same. But Pete - oh yes. But then, Claudia - the girl I love!

I had trouble getting into the first season ... but there was a marathon on Scifi just before season 2 started and presto, loved loved season 2. Am still loving it now, great show, they've really developed the characters and stories beautifully.

Travel safely and yay for mushrooms! (sauteed in butter and sour cream...yum. )

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-12-30 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it was the same for me too - somewhere in the season 2 I just all over sudden started to care for the characters and see them as real people. And I am loving the way the story is deepening with the various warehouses: we are speculating where the warehouse 1 was. :D I said in China. :D

Oh, it will be months before we go to Russia, but we made a definite decision, so I am getting excited. I also love them in sour cream. And in soup. And my mother makes beautiful mushroom dumpling things.

[identity profile] jenlev.livejournal.com 2011-12-30 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm.....I'll vote for Ur just because I like the idea of the Ziggurat being the first place. :) It's been making me twitch wondering how they're going to address what happened at the end of last season. Meep.

Mushrooms are one of my favorite things. I wouldn't date pick them myself, but I'm a bit of a wimp. Hee!

Shamelessly butting in...

but omg ICON LOVE! :)

Ah, Elishavah made it for me. I love it too! :)

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2012-01-05 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ur makes sense. :D

I love mushrooms too. In russia, my father has always been big on mushrooms, so we received "proper training" on picking (as in: knowing which is good and which is bad and also knowing how to pick the mushrooms so that the actual fungi part is not destroyed).

[identity profile] jenlev.livejournal.com 2012-01-05 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I am fascinated by Ur and the other places in that local/time frame. The bronze age is amazing.

Wonderful that you got that training for mushrooms! :)

Eureka is still my Syfy favorite, but WH13 is a lot of fun. The main characters are like a loving but slightly dysfunctional family, and I kind of just want to cuddle them all. I'm so glad you're enjoying it.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2012-01-05 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, I love your comparison with a loving family. I just want to cuddle them all too. AND NOW THEY EVEN INTRODUCED A DOG.

[identity profile] endlessdeep.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you like Warehouse 13. It's one of my favorite shows for all the reasons you stated. :)

Have a Happy New Year!

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2012-01-05 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember you posting about this show a lot, and you are definitely one of the people who made me come back to the show again.

And now I LOVE IT!

[identity profile] timescout.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
I love Warehouse 13! I'm currently waiting impatiently for it to come back with S4 so I can enjoy my time with the gang again and to see how they resolved the cliffhanger. Unfortunately I'll have to wait till July for that..... :(

WH13 one of those series that have been constatly enjoyable throughout all 3 seasons. The cast is great, I love the dynamics between all of them. The 'visiting' characters, whether recurring or onetime only have been good as well.

How far in are you now?

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2012-01-05 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the show and it seems that all the LJ people I always share my likes and dislikes with (like you and bluocean) like WH13 too. I haven't gotten to the cliffhanger yet (I have been watching my Korean dramas) but I am sure I will be breaking my brain too. We just finished 3.08. :D THE DOG - I hope he stays!

Did you say something about Ojakgyo Brothers? I gulped 38 in one go (I am still on holidays). I have such a crush on Joo WOn, it is insane!

[identity profile] timescout.livejournal.com 2012-01-06 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
So, are you back to k-dramas.....?

Re. 'Ojakgyo Brothers'.... I might have mentioned it somewhere, I like it. I've been watching it in chunks whenever I've amassed enough subbed epis. I guess I'm as far in as you now. Joo Won.... I can't say I've got a crush on him exactly (that'd be Suh Joon Young in 'Just You' right now ;P) but he is a qutie and I'm looking forward to more of him in dramas. His next one (Mask? premiers in May... I think) sounds like tons of fun. In an angsty kind of way, LOL!

I've been watching bit of this and bit of that, rotating my currently airing dramas with some older stuff (Chosun Police 3 was love, I need to do a piece on it) and western shows thrown in (Body of Proof is back from hiatus \o/).

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2012-01-06 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I crushing on Suh Joon Young always. It is a pity "Just You" is so long.. a bit too long for me. Joo Woo does angst extremely well and I can't wait to see him in "Mask.."

Body of proof didn't strike a chord with me at the beginning of the season 1 but I might get to it sometime too, if it is good..

[identity profile] timescout.livejournal.com 2012-01-06 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been watching 'Just You' raw (and now re-watching the subbed KBSWorld episodes to see what I missed, heh) and oddly enough it hasn't bored me yet. LOL! It might be 100+ episodes but they are short and the story moves at quite a brisk pace for a daily. So far anyway. I'm sort of surprised how much I'm enjoying it. Not that I won't drop it if it plunges into the usual makjangy hell at some point or if I just loose interest. SJY is totally adorable though. There's just something so instantly endearing in him. *g*

BoP didn't grab me right of the bat either but it's one of those shows that needed a few episodes to find it's groove. S2 has been love. I really like the characters and their interaction. Dana Delaney is great as someone who's not a paragon of virtue but always human. I also like the understated humour.

[identity profile] wistfulmemory.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like WH13, too, though I got tracked about halfway through the 3rd season by other real life fandom things. I really need to catch back up. *heads off to find downloads*

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2012-01-05 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY! I am so so glad you like it too. I really feel like I found something so nice with this show, and so unexpectedly. It is my feel-good show of the moment.
