Reccomendation request : Automatic screencapping?

I want to try making animated icons, for this I need some good automatic screencapping program. Usually I do screencapping for my icons on the individual scene basis (I like to find the best screne and angle so this usually takes LONG) , but for the gifs I definitely need something that can just screencap everything automatically with 10 secs in between.

Anyone knows of any automatic screencapping programs?

If somebody tells you one, please tell me! So far, when I do animated icons, what I do is play the thing in the vlc, slow the playing to 0.67 or 0.50 and keep capping (with shortcuts I chose the Q key so I only have to keep clicking it for a while...).

I'm telling you in case nobody knows of a program :S

Please see below - KMPlayer seems to be advised.

And thank you for the tip!

I love your gifs, BTW. Do you have any tips for smooth transitions?

I recommend the KMPlayer. It's a media player and is pretty awesome when it comes to continuous capping! :)

This. I do them with it. I set it up so it takes 1 cap every 2 frames. Then I load the whole sequence in image ready and...well, the gif is pretty much done.

I've tried other programs, programs made specifically to make gifs, but idk, they either placed a mark on the gif (though you might find version that don't have it *cough*) or no matter what I did, the gif got screwed while I was saving.

Thank you!

I have just installed it. How do you "set it up so it takes 1 cap every 2 frames"?

Right click on the screen >Capture>Frame:extract

My settings
Numbers to extract: continous
size to extract: original
frames to extract: 2 every # frames

When you want to cap, click start then play the bit of the video you want to cap and voila, it'll extract frames. When you're done, stop the vid from playing and click on "stop" in the frames:extract window

hope this helps

This is absolutely awesome and caps beautifully.

Thank you!!!!!!!

you can also extract all the frames (just choose "every frame" instead of "2 every # frames"), but I noticed that makes the gif slow and too "heavy". IDK, play around with it. I think every 2 frames is perfect. It flows quite right and it loads nicely when it's uploaded.

Thank you so much for the tips. I have never done this before (well, I made a gif once, but I just added text :D), but I feel more confident now.

ack, i'm spamming you, sorry

and btw, kmplayer is WONDERFUL for softsubs! It's one of the most customizable players ever. At first it's kind of overwhelming (there are honestly SO many options to choose from), but once you know it, you won't ever switch back to another player (I used to swear I would never use anything other than VLC but I think KMPlayer is faaaaaaaaar superior to it, even if it's based on the same source code)

But yeah, I would never go back to a player that doesn't have the same level of customization. You can change from the way soft subs look to mouse events. Awesomesauce! Make sure to activate the advanced menu. Right click on the screen > Options > advanced menu

I am already loving it. Seems really good. It might become my favourite player as well. I have been using ZPlayer so far, but this is way better.

I already activated advanced menu - it wasn't showing the screen capture options otherwise.

I wanted to thank you so much for recommending the KMPlayer. I have been using the GOM Player up until now, but it doesn't do .ass and more advanced .srt. The only thing I can't figure out if it can do is to move the \A6 a bit higher up, just like you can move the normal subtitles down or up.

You're welcome!

I think it does? I set up mine so the subs appear in the little black strips at the bottom and top of the screen (my screen res is ridiculously high and I don't like seeing the subs on the footage) but...er, since there are so many options, I can't pinpoint which one does the trick with the a6, esp if you have different settings than mine. Have you tried properties (right-click on the screen or hit F2)>Subtitle processing>Alignment ?

Thank you so much! I have just installed it!

Edit: it works beautifully. thank you again.
