Million various things

This is a season to party, right? We are in the middle of an endless succession of "project days" and "user groups" and "team days" recently. I went to Derby yesterday where we had an annual user group thingy for our timetabling software in Breadsall Priory Hotel & Country Club which was very nice, adorned with much timetabling talks and lovely FOOD. Next week we are having a "team day", it seems. ** sigh **
TV
Angel: I am moving slowly through season 2 at the moment and I am in love with many secondary characters, namely Cordelia, Gunn, Wesley, Lindsey and even The Host. The mind-reading karaoke thing is wonderful.
I really liked Angel himself up to a point, when he used to brood cutely and all such things. But his latest antics of firing the happy trio and going AWOL disappointed me. I have an impression that Angel (and Buffy) is the pin and the most important thing of the show and this over-importance somehow is not my personal cup of tea. It is difficult to express, but I feel as if Buffy (and now Angel, though it was different at first) take themselves way too seriously which I find to be grating. But this is just me. And I hope this will go away soon as Angel seemed to recover in the last episode I watched, Epiphany.
At the tangent, I find it totally giggle-worthy that Angel is ruled by his shenanigans with ladies. Seriously, this is so amusing! Angel+Buffy=He goes evil. Angel+Darla=He is back on track. Hee! Cherche la femme!
Dexter: Let's say this without any spoilers, I am still loving it. ( more spoilery part )
Friday Night Lights: I am so sorry guys but I am stopping watching this soon. A couple of recent episodes didn't give me anything new. It is slowly starting to be a well-made soap opera. I love soap operas, BTW, but this wasn't what I was expecting from "FNL". May be this is because I like big arcs. The season 1 had a big arc and everything one way or another was included in it. The season 2 seems to be disjointed at the moment.
Band of Brothers: on the other hand is making me think, think, think about so many important questions. And remember The War again. I have watched two episodes of it and it is made exceptionally well, better than any film about WW2. Some more about this soon.
Life: Damien Lewis is GREAT! I LOVE HIM. And Sarah Shahi too!
Films
Eastern Promises:
I really liked it. It was so "Russian". In the way it was filmed, in the music and mainly - in the mixture of melancholy/melodrama/brutality in equal parts. I can't get over this – how someone who is not Russian could get Russian culture so well?? My applause to David Cronenberg.
( Some more on Viggo Mortensen's Russian. No spoilers )
Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, sadly it was the weakest part of the Vengeance trilogy for me. It felt too long and it had too many plot twist that were difficult to believe. Also I had a feeling that some of the "disgusting" scenes in the film were unnecessary for the story. I also thought that the theme of vengeance (and capital punishment) for a child's murder could be explored a little better.
Fracture is quite an interesting court drama but it is mostly made by Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling (of whom I must see more ASAP). But I ended up rooting for Anthony Hopkins' character, of course. :D
Bad Movies
I wanted to watch something with two young actors, Gaspard Ulliel and Steven Strait. I have seen:
Hannibal Rising Oh what a bad, bad movie!! Total YUCK! And crazy unexplainable plot twists on top. ( more with spoilers ) Oh, what a waste of Kevin McKidd! What a waste of Li Gong! What a waste of Gaspard Ulliel!! I will never be able to perceive him as anything but a weird boy now. ** sigh **
The Covenant Another bad movie. But it had one redeeming quality: Steven Strait is very very pretty. I need to make a picspam from this film. Steven Strait is totally worthy of it..
