Storyline It seems that the best approach to watch "300" is to forget that Sparta is a historical place and that the Battle of Thermopylae really took place and treat it all just like a fantasy ride.. A fantasy with R ratings..

Visuals The whole movie looks like it is a painting or animation. Apparently it took more then a year of post-production to achieve this effect. They shot it 90% in bluescreen and 10% in greenscreen and then edited in Linux and Macintosh using Maya, XSI, and Lightwave for 3D and Shake, Inferno, Fusion, and Combustion for 2D. (Information from: IMDB) And WOW! The whole effect is stunning! ( One of the best scenes, Oracle dance, filmed entirely underwater: )
Controversy Apparently, 300 greatly offended Iranians. The movie was released on the eve of Persian New year and this didn't help it. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spoke about it. Iranian academy of Art complained to UNESCO. It is not that surprising because ( Ancient Persian military elite, as according to 300, is: )
Did I like it? I did and I didn't. It was obviously something that required an incredible amount of effort to produce and something that looked cap-blowingly beautiful. Character development was not expected and dialogue didn't go further then "The battle is not over until I say so". But gratuitous amounts of amazing slow-motion battle scenes were there. Heads did roll indeed!!
But what I didn't like AT ALL, what was for me a crime against humanity: the film creators managed to make one of my favourite actors, Gerard Butler, to look absolutely un-hot.
( Oh, Gerard, Gerard! What have they done to you!!!! (In pictures) )
