Short report on New Moon:

Update: as according to IMDB, New Moon broke the opening-day gross record, collecting 73 million in USA. mamma mia! The world is coming to an end!

- Once again, it wasn't the worst film of all times, and it was even better than "Twilight"
- Edward is still creepifyingly morose, and Robert Pattinson still can't act to save his life. He so visibly hates every moment of this film and Bella in particular, and thinks of how he hates it all when doing tender kissing scenes. This produces very amusing effects.
- Good special effects work on wolves and human/wolf transformation
- Taylor Lautner is a very good choice for Jacob.
- The scene with Volturi was really good , as if implanted from another, much better film. Michael Sheen is rather awesome as Aro.
- The scene of Laurent's death (although very short) was rather good too.

- Every time Jacob took his shirt off (and he did this often) the movie theatre went crazy.

You know, I have my issues with both Edward and Jacob in the books. I don't think I'd like either of them very much, but just going on looks? I will never understand how Bella could have picked creepy, corpse-like Edward Cullen over Jacob and those machine guns he has for arms now.

Hahahaha! I sort of agree. Not to that extent as you, but yeah, he did seem too pained. Kristen's coldness didn't help that either. They had zero chemistry this time around. All their kisses seemed so passionless.

Unfortunately, as much as I didn't mind Lautner at some points, the storyline of the middle part of the movie was just so boring. It reminded me of HBP, the way one waited for something to happen, but nothing ever did.

Says a lot that to me the best scene in the movie involved a minor character. Victoria, I'm talking to you, you fierce thing!

He has a nice set of abs and some wonderfully built arms...

I have major issues with everyone in the books, especially Bella. I think I must have skipped few bits when reading because it never glared so much at me - GOSH! Isn't she a totally devoid of any interesting feature doormat???

Taylor Lautner is in some romantic comedy next(Valentine's day or something)- I am so watching this!

I am wondering - everyone knows how he hates "Twilight" , what keeps him doing the films?

Hee! I wasn't really looking for any story here, not with the ARMS of steel and nifty wolves!

Edit: and yess! I liked Victoria too. Isn't she the new actress?

I like his smile too. :D and all the rest of the boy-wolves are easy on the eyes too. :D

He signed a contract to do 3 movies from the start. Can't get out of that one. Plus it's given him world-wide fame and so many options for future jobs.

I never liked buff guys, so I wasn't as lucky as you... I'd choose a willowy, pasty-ass corpse, too. ;)

This must be so HARD on him, poor thing. I should have been feeling sorry for him but I am rather amused - 5-6 years of life doing something that you hate must leave it's mark.

There is no right or wrong in the tastes, of course!

[identity profile] dianora77.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I heard him say in several interviews that he always liked the character of Job and identified with him quite a bit, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was seeing it as some sort of self-inflicted martyrdom which he must patiently endure. :D

No, this was the old actress who got fired after this one, the new one is in the third installment.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Everyone choses their own cross, so to speak. :D And gosh - isn't the actress who plays Bella so unbelievably bland???? Why is everyone in love with her????

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a real pity. She is really quite nice.

[identity profile] dianora77.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
No idea, my friend calls her Wooden Mary, or in Croatian - Drvena Marija. I find that extremely apt. Hehehe!

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I like this one too. And she always keeps her mouth opened - I really dislike this habit.

[identity profile] seven-trees.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I found everyone in the books so dull and it's surprising because I first read Twilight when I was 15 so I was at that age where the books should have been a perfect fit for me. But I just found Edward to be so utterly boring. I mean sometimes you read a novel and you get this very vivid idea of how the characters are and how they express themselves, but this book just left me completely blank on the characters.

Taylor Lautner is in some romantic comedy next(Valentine's day or something)-

OH GOD. I'll watch it.

[identity profile] lage-nom-ai.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Heee. I've read several reviews saying that Jacob's bare chest is the film's only redeeming feature...

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Edward never really appealed to me (109 year old virgin - hehe!) I was really in fannish love with the character of Jacob for some time, but "breaking Dawn" and imprinting on babies with teeth killed this love (or so I thought :D)

"Taylor Lautner is in some romantic comedy next(Valentine's day or something)-"

It is by that big-hiiter romantic comedy guy who did "Runaway bride", Pretty Woman", "Overboard" and "princess diaries", Garry Marshall. Should be reasonably good.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
But it was a very nice redeeming feature. :D I am fighting an urge to watch it again, just for the bare chest's sake.

To be fair, the special effects were also quite decent, much better than is the first movie.

[identity profile] bzoppa.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm really annoyed about how all that went down. I like Rachel LeFevre and was waiting for her to get her big break, and figured this was it. Then they dumped her for Bryce Dallas Howard who, while exquisite, doesn't need the boost.

I've never read the books but LeFevre's casting almost got me to see the movie except I wasn't going to put myself through it.

Then I heard Rifftrax (http://www.rifftrax.com/) had a take on Twilight so I watched it a few weeks ago. "He looks like the love child of Matthew Perry and Powder (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114168/)!" etc, so I was amused enough through the whole movie.

I'll wait for a rifftrax on this one before I see it.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I agree, that whole story was quite bad.

LeFevre's role is really quite small in "New Moon", but she is good enough to notice her even there (I even didn't know who she is).

"He looks like the love child of Matthew Perry and Powder!"

he-he-he-he!!!!

[identity profile] seven-trees.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I never really got the whole why the 109 year-old virgin thing was supposed to come across as a good thing. I mean, I think a lot of people read that an went "Sexual disfunction alert."

Jacob was cute in the beginning but then he had that scene where he forces that kiss on Bella and starts telling her that he knows that she loves him and I just thought that came across as a little douchey. And yeah, Breaking Dawn = creepiest thing ever published. However I'm terribly curious to see how they'll handle that in the fourth movie. I honestly think it would be better if they just cut out that whole part and had him imprinting on someone else.

I liked that scene (well, it annoyed the heck out of me - how can you be in love with two people at once??) but seeing that she really loved them both (but how can this be??) I liked the scene. I have a thing for forced kisses. ** meep **

I am so curious too. But!! Taylor Launer imprinting on babies = I so don't want to see this!!!! And the thing is, why did the author have to rush with it?? If she just had Jacob away for some years and after that coming back and imprinting on Bella's daughter when she is already adult?? I would have totally bought this.

[identity profile] seven-trees.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
What annoyed me was the fact that she couldn't defend herself at all. She punched him after he did it and it was just another case of the author showing us how weak Bella was in comparison to all the men around her. Let me tell you something, warewolf or not, I bet you a million dollars (Euros?) that there is one very sensitive place in his body that is not made of steel and would have had him crying on the floor in three seconds flat if she'd kicked him there.

If she just had Jacob away for some years and after that coming back and imprinting on Bella's daughter when she is already adult??

It would have been better, but I'd probably still be creeped out. I mean, why SMeyer, out of all the people in Forks, why Bella's kid? WHY?!

[identity profile] the-reverand.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Was there any explanation of what evil force posessed him to cut his hair? He and his hair people were the only redeeming part of the first film for me.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked the hair too. :D This was one of the weird things that is never explained in the movie (shows the consistency issues, huh?) but is explained in the book. Apparently there was a correlation between how much hair they have in human form and and how long their hair was in the wolf form. It was summer and it was too hot to run around with shaggy hair. :D
