Films I liked: Men who hate women

Men who hate women/Män som hatar kvinnor (Sweden) has it's flaws but I still liked it very much. It is an adaptation of Stieg Larsson's novel but the "weakest thread" in the canvass of this movie is the story itself: it is quite standard serial killer thriller with Old Testament references. This could have been just one of those serial killer movies that come out in hundreds every year, and it even might soon become one – it seems like a perfect movie for a Hollywood re-make. But, directed by Niels Arden Oplev, this serial killer flick has become austerely beautiful, atmospheric and enigmatic. It's cinematography reminded me of "Insomnia" (Norwegian version) and paintings by Vilhelm Hammershoi – there is always something hidden in every frame, just beyond your reach. And hurray! In the film we also have an unconventional and absolutely awesome heroine Lisbeth (Noomi Rapace), bisexual, Goth and computer hacker! Also, the serial killer storyline unfolded quite neatly. I really recommend this one to the fans of whodunit crime stories.

Oh my... WOW.
I really should watch this. Moreover, it's been ages since I revived my Swedish... so there are more reasons for watching, than spikes and the polt (which I assume to be rather fine))!

I like kick-ass ladies so. There should be more on TV.

I hope you'll enjoy this. I must find the books now - there are two more books after the first one. I am interested. :D

I am so glad you liked the novel - I want to watch it too and it is great to hear a good word about it. Have you read all "Millennium" books or just the first one? I hope you'll like the adaptation.

I am going to order the books - I was wondering how good they are but you are the second person saying they are good so I am so so excited!

Yes, I liked Lisbeth the most, but the journalist guy was cast well too - a good combination of laid-back and very persistent.

I'm really curious for this movie! I haven't read any of the Millennium-saga books unfortunately, but maybe it could be even better --usually I get disappointed when I happen to watch a book made into movie.

I am the same - I usually enjoy it much better when I see a movie first and after that read the book it was made from. Somehow you get much more details in book form..

However, now that you recommended the movie, I'll be sure to check it out!
