New UK police posters

I was in our swimming pool with my daughter and her friends when I first noticed the posters below on the walls of the entrance. Since then I have seen them in few other places - they are a part of a new Police campaign to increase the population's involvement in helping the Police.

I find them .. strange. Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction. :D

I could not resist and included an old favourite:

I feel the police might want to fire their media consultants - those posters (with the exception of the old, red one) are downright creepy.

** nodds ** It is not "just me" me then. I find the old one quite creepy too - when someone says "keep calm and carry on" I hear "now panic and freak out". :D

Wow....those are just quite something.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-06-26 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed! And they are meant to pledge with the population on fighting crime? How so?

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed.

I think telling me that anything I say could be taken down as evidence would make me completely clam up.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
There must be some masterplan somewhere there, but I don't see it. :D

Someone needs to tell the PR guy, "Umm, I don't think that word means what you think it means." Talk about ConceptFail.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder how fast these posters will go down. :D

[identity profile] lage-nom-ai.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
My friend has a "Keep calm and carry on" poster up, and it's kind of cute.

But the "We'd like to give you a good talking to" is HILARIOUS. I'm totally nabbing that icon.

Er... any way to get the real poster?

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
YAY! I am glad you like :D

The thing is, these posters were available to order from here (http://www.crimereduction.homeoffice.gov.uk/) just a week ago but the link doesn't work anymore. Must be the high demand. :D

I will have a look around - I'll get one for you if I see one.

You are the bestest! *hugs*

That's hilarious that the website is down now!

And also hilarious: I have to admit that I always, always read it as "keep CLAM and carry on." Sigh. :P

This is most fitting, i think!

I LOVE these!

Your icon provides some wonderful contrast. I think I'll have to borrow it (and credit the icon maker, of course). :)

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-06-29 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
If you are interested - the icon is made from the excellent T-shirt from Threadless ( http://www.typetees.com/product/1466/Now_panic_and_freak_out ) . I have bought quite few t-shirts from Threadless over the years, it is great.

Thanks for the link! :) A combination of the "Calm" message on the front and the "Freak Out" on the back would be nice. :D

I've heard of that company. Thanks to LJ. :) We also have some shirt-shops but sadly nothing on that scale and with that diversity of shirts and slogans.

It is quite easy to order from Threadless on the web - we have got quite few t-shirts from them (for all the family) and they are always reliable. They often have good sales (usually in winter and in summer) , this is when I usually order from them.

Our guys from work introduced me to Threadless.. ;D

Hey, sorry I missed your birthday! I hope it was a nice one.

I am having a little trouble understanding how these posters are supposed to make me feel about the poh-lice. I mean, up till now, my chiefest image of a British policeman was the constable from Mary Poppins. (Or maybe Jamie Bamber...) I would have told either of them just anything.

But these posters are making me feel sure I personally must have committed some sort of terrible crime, and it's only a matter of time before I get found out...!

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much!!!! My birthday was indeed nice (may be too nice :D I feel a bit tired)

The posters are so crazy! I am sure there must have been some sarcastic thought somewhere there - but Police + sarcasm = doesn't compute!

[identity profile] vierran45.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
These don't quite convey the message that you should talk to the police. Quite the opposite, in fact. Very 1984-ish and creepy!

I know!!! (The slogans might come handy in fannish discussions, may be :D)

[identity profile] vierran45.livejournal.com 2009-06-27 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true, which is why I snagged one of these :D.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!!

[identity profile] trailer-spot.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
That's pretty remarkable! I first thought that maybe I didn't understand it correctly. Or maybe that it is a parody. But as I can see from the other comments this is meant seriously. Astonishing! I'm sure people from the former East Germany would be thrilled to see posters like that.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2009-06-28 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
I think this is meant to be a parody of some sort but I don't think it worked out well. :D

[identity profile] mnemo-syne.livejournal.com 2009-06-29 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
I just wanted to wish you a happy belated birthday! I hope it was wonderful, as you deserve. If I didn't already. It's been a crazy couple days for me.
