Barack Obama gives Elizabeth II an Ipod

A shiny new video iPod with "Oklahoma!, Some Enchanted Evening, Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend, I Could Have Danced All Night, Maria, The Sound of Music, Hello, Dolly!, Cabaret, Send in the Clowns, If I were a Rich Man and Don't Cry for Me Argentina." was presented by President Obama to the Queen. Apparently she already had an iPod, since 2005. Read more here

Also, Michelle Obama broke the protocol by giving the Queen a hug - AND NO-ONE FAINTED!!! Yet.

I'm now having visions of the Queen with her iPod singing along to "Don't Cry for Me Argentina". Sort of like Hugh Grant's Prime Minster dancing in Nr. 10 in "Love Actually". Hee.

Heee. I love the snark about the signed photograph, in return, from the Queen!

Here everyone's been having a fit about all of it, and of course no one seems to mention that the Queen actually loved the iPod/may have actually requested it...

I think the ipod thing is pretty cool, you know - this makes them just like NORMAL folks, so cute. The Queen has liked it, it seems!

This is great! I love this - G20 summit happened to be so interesting and Obama is such a joy in so many different ways!!! It is a clash of old and new!

I heard on the news last night that the Queen's household actually had to release a statement saying that there was no offense, and the gesture was mutual. It made me feel kind of sad for the Queen; I wouldn't like be hugged by all manner of random strangers, but I think it would be very lonely to be so important that almost no one was ever allowed to touch me at all.

They also showed a story about Michelle Obama paying a surprise visit to a girls' school in, I think, a poor neighborhood, and I was very moved by all the little girls shedding tears of joy at seeing her. It could be really wonderful to be so important on the world stage, if you had that kind of power to lift people's spirits.

This is really great and amazing - the last time something like this happened (with Australian leader, I think) it was an international offense. It is may be slightly sad to have a protocol such like this but I guess this is something that have been in place for centuries. But I am also glad that things are changing.

Oh, the visit news are wonderful - this new USA presidency is something one still can't quite believe in, how good it is.
