True Blood: the trashiest show I have seen so far. Bad fashions.

Forget all korean dramas , forget forbidden stepsibling love, forget angsty crying in snow wildernesses. Because now we have "True Blood"!!! And it is all about vampires and their human rights!! And of course, the herouine has to stand for the rights of vampires. I want to stand for the rights of vampires too, especially for the rights of Eric. And in order to do so Sookie needs to stroll around the woods dressed as below.

Poor Anne Paquin has completely lost her waist and her torso looks far too short:

The question: Are there any mosquitoes in the woods (looks like this type of woods)??? If anyone is from the Southern states of USA - do you get much of mosquitoes there?

This was meant to be a cute Southern dress, I think. And it could have been one, only if the waistline (and the hem line) was a bit lower. As it stands, looks like Poor Sookie has been wearing this dress since the age of 13. She has grown a bit since then. Also - why is she standing in this strange way? Surely not because she has to show off her bosoms?

I am still worried about mosquitoes. Evening + Woody places + Scantily dressed girls = Mosquitoes??

PS: I am utterly mesmerized.

I'm actually curious about this show.

And I was going to say she must have stolen that dress from her niece or something :P

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
This is one of these cases: I CAN'T stop watching it. The show has a great pulling power. :D

And I was going to say she must have stolen that dress from her niece or something :P

May be. :D Poor niece.

Yes, we get mosquitoes. Insane amounts of mosquitoes. However, plenty of people in the American South do dress like that.

I still don't like the show at all, it is not my style of Southern Gothic but it is intentionally trashy, so I understand watching it for that reason!

This makes sense. :D But what do they do about mosquitoes? Like we get lots of them where I was born, but usually if people go for a walk in the woods they dress more .. sensibly. Or you can be eaten alive.

I can't stop watching, and I haven't even seen Eric yet. But I wish the show stopped nagging about the human rights of vampires. This doesn't go with the delicious trashiness.

Hahaha! Well, mosquitoes are a small price to pay! I'm lol-ing at the trash clothes though. I think I'm frightened to watch this show in case I get suckered in.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The show is very addictive. :D My favourite character (from the books) haven't appeared yet - I am sure I'll get totally addicted when he appears.

The fashions are genuinely awful, I admit. But Bill is yummy, so I keep watching. I'm easy. *sigh*

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep watching too. In a way I wish I haven't read the books because I can't take Bill seriously.

[identity profile] queenofthorns.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Well, maybe she's distracted by the smaller mosquito bites by the bigger vampire bites? (Or else she's invested in a lot of DEET!)

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! SHe is definitely distracted. And may be one day we'll see some flash-back with her spraying DEET all over herself. :D

[identity profile] lesbiassparrow.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Clearly the poor girl is too poor to be able to buy new clothes, so your speculation that she has been wearing the same dress since she was 13 is true. :)

I didn't really enjoy the one book in the series very much, but I am strangely fascinated by the images of Sookie's miniature clothes. Surely if you were dating a vampire it would be an excellent idea to try and cover up lots of flesh so as not to tempt them too much?

Hee! Not if you waaaaaaaant to be bitten. As much as a fan of "vampire romance" I am I always find the bit about girls desire to be bitten strange.

I watched the first ep and was kind of charmed by it! I doubt I'll see anymore just because I'm terrible at television that isn't on DVD, but it was cute in a weird way.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
but it was cute in a weird way.

hee! This is the good description. I think the show is very ucky to have Anna Paquin, she is too pretty for words.

[identity profile] soniag.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Someone else watching this show! YAY!

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I am!!!! I can't stop watching too. :D

[identity profile] wildtiger7.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
We get lot of mosquitoes, but they tend to spray insecticide in populated areas, so it's not as bad. But any wooded area would be awful in the summer. I worked in the Florida Everglades one summer and we'd only go hiking in the rain. Field workers have stories of being out in full-protection suits and watching tourists climb out of their cars and then climb back in within minutes covered in mosquitoes. Why do people think they were wearing the suits?

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
This sounds like the place where I was born. When we used to go into the woods we used to wear jeans, boots, jackets and spray any "flesh" with insecticide. It used to get bad in the populated areas at night too, everyone had nets on their windows.

I'm really loving this show. The fashions are a welcome change from the usual glam, high fashion stuff we see. Anna Paquin looks and acts like a real young woman. Sookie is turning out to be a wonderful heroine - well rounded with her old, beat up car, interesting fashion ideas and regular hair. And that brother!

I haven't read the books - just ordered them and am eagerly awaiting their arrival.

Maybe mosquitos avoid telepaths? Or vampires, so she won't be bothered around Bill. Otherwise, let's just say she has tons of Off.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you will like the books - I quite enjoyed them, in all their bad-book glory.

hee! This is a good suggestion. May be she can project a telepathic field or something. :D

Anna: "I'm actually going for the slutty Southern belle look, thank you very much, [livejournal.com profile] alexandral"

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
He-he! I wish I could - I am too old for this. ;D

[identity profile] endlessdeep.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Those 'little' blood suckers are the least of her worries. ;)

I think Alan Ball's intention is to make the show a lot trashy and very cliche.

That being said, some people in the south do dress like that. It would be odd if Sookie was wearing nice designer clothes. Would be totally out of place for Sookie since she is a small town girl. Although I have to say the dress in the first picture bothered me too because it makes her look like she has no waist or hips.

The show IS mesmerizing though isn't it? Hee. I am totally in love with Bill. They couldn't have picked a better actor to play him.

I like the actor playing Bill too. This is the first time I wish I haven't read the spoilers in the books. I could have enjoyed Bill's charcater so much more. However, I seem to like Sookie's brother more in the TV show than in the books. :D

And you know, some people? Are not bothered by mosquitoes. My sister will get chewed up by them and I can sit next to her and nothing will happen. So. Go figure.

I love Bill's manners.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Bill's manners.

Me too! His "can I call upon you" totally reminded me when I just moved to the UK. One of our well-mannered friends said this to me. I thought she was going to ring me. ** laughs **

[identity profile] elec3nity.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
She looks really terrible, but tasty enough for mosquitoes and vampires! ))

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't Anna Paquin so gorgeous? I am thoroughly enjoying this.

[identity profile] petzipellepingo.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
She's supposed to be a poorly paid waitress in the very hot and buggy/muggy Deep South so that's as good an explanation for her outfits as I have. You'll notice that Bill at least dresses better than her or maybe the skeeters just don't bother with him.
Silly skeeters.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I quite like the outfits Tara wearing. But I also secretly loving Sookie's dresses. They are so bad that they are goood.

[identity profile] miss-dian.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Heee.. do they show True Blood in UK local TV? :D

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, NO. I procure this by different means. :D

[identity profile] arathisiewen.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I think Bontemps is being treateda littlelike a backwater hick of a town? Also, I need to read the books.

Well yes, she normally would keep getting bitten in the evening, but I can tell you for cure that unless she's... ahem... having a monthly... the mosquitos may jsut not be attracted to the scent of her blood.

Also.

Walking with vampire.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you will enjoy the books!

I thought that first dress was some sort of bathing suit cover-up...I kind of hope that's what it is.

I'm loving this show, btw.

I thought that first dress was some sort of bathing suit cover-up...I kind of hope that's what it is.

Actually, I thought so too. Which makes it even stranger that Sookie wonders around in the woods in such a dress.

(I am enjoying this too. :D)
