I TOTALLY agree. I have several friends who are Lymond Chronicles fanatics, but I found I couldn't care about any of the characters--plus, I'm sorry, I know the author was a genius, but I don't like having it thrown in my face every page.
I don't think I got any farther in the first book than you did--I might have quit even sooner.
However, I'm sure there are others on your flist who are Lymond Chronicles fans and will make a case for the books!
