As I was just saying over on lesbiassparrow's LJ, I've taught this book a few times and undergrads LOVE it!

I do disagree with dangermousie a bit, though, in that I see it as very anti-miscegenistic--Natty, our hero, is repeatedly described as, and boasts of, how he's a "man without a cross" (religious as well as blood!) Also, there are hints of miscegentation in how Cora is described... and it goes less well for her in the novel.
