Date: 2007-10-10 08:51 am (UTC)Also the filter work on #10 is very good. It looks like an old, sepia coloured photograph - very haunting. :)

Date: 2007-10-11 03:14 pm (UTC)I think if I could change anything about Dune it would be for Alia not to be possessed by the Baron, and to spend herlife with Duncan.
** Nods ** "Dune" is not really a happy–ending style book, is it? I was quite keen on the first Leto (Paul's father) too and I was really sad when he died.

Date: 2007-10-10 09:44 pm (UTC)This mini-series is one of my favourites, considering that the Dune book series occupies a really special place in my heart (read it about 10 times, perhaps, all 7 books, ha), and Leto, Ghanima and Alia are among my most beloved characters.
Thank you so much!

It is such a very good adaptation, isn't it? It has it's flaws but it's beauty is incredible.. I stopped reading by "God Emperor of Dune" but the first few books are really excellent, so original and like nothing else out there. May be one day I'll read the rest of the books..

Date: 2007-10-11 09:30 pm (UTC)I hope you'll read the other books as well. They might not be that good, but they're still Dune ;)
And you're welcome. You well deserve all the praise!
(took the liberty to friend you, btw)

I have added you too!

Date: 2007-10-12 01:50 pm (UTC)Yes, the twins have been my favourites before the movie was launched as well, considering that I first read the books when I was around 12. And I feel a sudden urge to re-read them (the 7th time perhaps) again, too. So perhaps I'll find the time to do it, comment them with you, and even write some fiction. It's quite strange that, although I'm usually not very fond of slash/incest fiction, the idea of Leto/Ghanima always attracted me. Perhaps because it's somehow quite canon-ish?
Yes, I think both Alia and Irulan deserved better, but the whole Atreides family was struck by tragedy and drama, so I guess this was their destiny and it had to be fulfilled, for some kind of greater good. Although I'm not that sure of what the Bene Gesserit understood as "greater good".

Date: 2007-10-13 06:50 pm (UTC)I an not that fond of slash/incest fiction neither but it is true – Leto and Ghanima are different. The whole universe is different in "Dune" and this may be the reason too.

This is what got me confused at the end – both Leto and Bene Gasserit were trying to achieve the best path for the humanity. And I really expected that Leto would do that but he didn't , at the end..

Date: 2007-10-14 11:54 am (UTC)And I think you're right concerning the so-called incest in this universe. After all, it was a concept that had kept the Egyptian dynasties alive, and it was quite accepted by the Celts as well, at least from what I've read in Mists of Avalon :p Of course, in the twins' case, it's more something like a political move, but I'm not sure Ghanima ever had some feelings for Farad'n, and plus, Leto knew so well what he'll become, and perhaps ... argh. I'm so messy when I think at the same time I write, lol. Even my grammar gets worse :D

Date: 2007-10-16 04:56 pm (UTC)You have completely persuaded me - I have decided to re-read "Children of DUNE" ! The whole twins incest thing is very deeply explored in "A song of ice and fire" books..

Date: 2007-10-16 06:28 pm (UTC)Ah. Martin, I think. I've bought the second book of his (trilogy or quadrilogy, I'm not sure) recently, but I can't find the first one. I'll search online. I wanted so much to read it! This means it's a very interesting reading, if you liked it and you'd rec it to me.
