Rome, Testudo et Lepus, and icons .

I liked it very much!! "Rome" is my favourite à la Dumas story of two ancient Roman musketeers. Whatever is happening in Rome, Pullo and Vorenus are sure to be involved!!!! My head is hurting from triple-day over iconing, but I don't really care. :D

+ I like Simon Woods as the new Octavian, he seems to be so ENERGETIC, but I have to watch a little more of him to complete my mind.

+ But I think my loyalties to Pullo and Vorenus are seriously shaken because I do, do love Agrippa so!!! he is so straightforward and good and honest inside and is not so good with words ,especially where women are concerned, and this is one of the things I just adore in men (RL or fictional). And Octavia does seem to be rejecting him flat so this is going to be one-sided doomed love of which I am also a huge fan of.

Agrippa screencap of the day

Oh, boy!!! You better quit right now!!!!

I liked his squabbling with Maecenas (who is also lovely in a bohemian sort of way) :

+ And as to the rest , you know what is the best thing on earth? Pullo and Vorenus, of course! That after a short word exchange involving "I only said so because I wanted to make you angry" from Pullo (oh, Pullo, I love you for the way you said it was so gentle!!!) and reserved "I know" from Vorenus they quickly fell back into their normal, absolutely comfortable way with each other. And they were camping near the fire and Pullo was making hints about the slave camp and really he was saying that HE was in a slave camp once. And Vorenus was not asking a word, but just listening. ** sigh ** As long as these two are together I will watch Rome and watch more of it!!

+ But wasn't that keen on Servillia's storyline, it just seemed to be unnecessary somehow. They could have shown us more of Pullo and Vorenus, or Agrippa, Octavian and Maecenas.

Pullo and Vorenus shot of the day: Camping again!!

And EEEE! Icons!!! (I am so sorry, I can't stop just yet). Icons are free to share ,if you like I will make customizations, like text and etc., for you.
Spoilers, big spoilers.

he does so with big words and quite a lot of passion

I think his loyalty for Octavian is very strong too. This is what i am loving here - it is Pullo and Vorenus again ( slightly different, but still!!)

EEEEEEEE! YAY for more "Rome" love. My LJ friend [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns introduced me to this wonderful show, and I feel like taking a course on Roman history now. :D Involving Agrippa, of course!!

They were quite a way from each other with Niobe, and then his eye caught the sight of the boy.

But the boy's on the ground floor - Lucius doesn't even SEE him until after Niobe is already dead. (Yes, he comes in and says "Where's your son?" but Niobe is the one he's confronting with the knife in his hand.) And in the end, I have to go with what he believes himself - that he was, at that moment, ready to kill her.

These are just words. I know they are not just words, but really they are not that big deal for me.

For me, I have to approach this from THEIR mindset. For us, they're just words - for Vorenus and for his children, they have so much more weight because they believe in this religion and he quite specifically cursed them. And consider that after all, his curse more or less came true - he damned them to Hades, and they end up in a place that is truly hell - so for the children and for Vorenus, I think they strongly see cause and effect here. It's not a mindset that we, the modern audience, share, but it is a very powerful thing for the characters.

I know! I always thought that Niobe went to the countryside to have a baby.

But her neighbor knew the whole story including that it was Evander's kid - and she can't have been the only one. So ... why was she so good about keeping quite? Heh!

And in the end, I have to go with what he believes himself - that he was, at that moment, ready to kill her.

I don't know, I still think he was after the boy first. It is just how that scene reads to me emotionally. Why would Niobe kill hersef otherwise? She had no way to protect her son after she died!!! I have to agree to disagree here!!!

For me, I have to approach this from THEIR mindset.

You see, if we approach entirely from their mindset, their mother was under the death sentence, so to speak. I know it was their MOTHER, but basically her killing by Vorenus could not be seen upon as some crime from their POV, right? And even cursing could have been viewed as something that is sort of applicable to the situation.

[identity profile] queenofthorns.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Or Niobe tragically misread the situation :P In any case, at least her dying wish was finally fulfilled, and Vorenus realized that the boy is blameless.

I know it was their MOTHER, but basically her killing by Vorenus could not be seen upon as some crime from their POV, right?

No, but remember that Vorena had faith that Vorenus would forgive them, and her mother told her that he would kill them all - and now she feels that her mother was right. Even if he was justified, I'm sure she can feel resentful (plus, he hit her just before that) - if he had not cursed them, Erastes wouldn't have taken them (or some such logic.) She can still hate him for cursing them while knowing he was in his rights to do so (a Roman father was pretty much all-powerful - if, for example, Niobe had presented baby Lucius to Vorenus and he had had doubts about the paternity, he could have tossed the kid out to die on a garbage heap and been within his rights as the paterfamilias, but Niobe would still - had she not been dead - probably been quite resentful of that act.)

And even cursing could have been viewed as something that is sort of applicable to the situation.

But again, just because Vorenus was within his rights to curse his children, doesn't mean HE doesn't regret doing it or THEY don't resent that he did it - nor does it negate the psychological power for him and for his children of his having done that.

If the curse is just words - and the characters believe it too - then Vorenus has nothing to feel guilty for, really. He is drowning in guilt because of the children - this is what he keeps coming back to with Pullo, saying that he should not have "done that" (i.e. cursed the children.) And because they "died", he feels he can never revoke the curse. He is always talking about how he caused the death of his children, and I think he is not talking about how he provoked Erastes Fulmen's anger against him that Erastes took out against the defenseless children - but of his own words of which Erastes was an instrument of fulfilment.

I think it is not possible to overestimate the meaning of words (how else does Antony get him on his feet? By calling on an oath - one that Vorenus swore under the standards of the Thirteenth - which is also "just" words. But Vorenus believes those words.)

No, but remember that Vorena had faith that Vorenus would forgive them, and her mother told her that he would kill them all

I believe that if he was told everything by Niobe (she could have confessed it to him) he would have not killed anyone. There would have been a big deal about it, but nobody would have died.

If the curse is just words - and the characters believe it too - then Vorenus has nothing to feel guilty

I think this is just my own perception. Because I am quite dramatic myself, I don't particular grudge him the words. And if he was there at the time Erastes arrived to his house, Vorenus just wold have been killed because he didn't have any protection from Caesar anymore and was alone.

Taken this one of Octavian - thank you muchly! ♥

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2007-02-10 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
EEEEEE! So glad you like!! I was a huge fan of Max Pirkis, but this new Octavian seems to be a good choice too!

[identity profile] ex-vivere116.livejournal.com 2007-02-10 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, definitely! I can actually believe they're the same person! :o! :D I loved Max, too - and I'm glad Simon has retained his 'presence'.

I can actually believe they're the same person!

Definitely! He just so seamlessly appeared in the scene with Pullo!!!

HEY! I am taking the Agrippa icon third from the last! Thank you for making these!

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2007-02-13 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I am so glad it is any good! (And ** cough cough ** Agrippa is really almost ready to become my favourite in this show . I loved the scene between him and Cicero!

[identity profile] ethrosdemon.livejournal.com 2007-02-13 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I love him, too. He's just so charming and earnest. I feel bad for him since he seems to be very idealistic and that's not gonna go so well for him. Look, your icon!

[identity profile] skandarrocks.livejournal.com 2007-02-13 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Taken the Agrippa icons, he's gorgeous.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2007-02-13 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I am glad you like!!

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2007-02-13 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see him going through the heartbreak soon and changing into a decisive general who hides his heart. Oh, let him be an open-hearted boy for a little longer!

[identity profile] royal-crest.livejournal.com 2007-02-13 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello.
I just joined the Rome group and found your icons.
I am ridiculously obsessed with Agrippa (he's just so adorable); would you mind if I attempted to use one of your icons for AIM?

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2007-02-13 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, no problem! I am glad you like the icon, and I am not that worried about credit and things!! Enjoy!!!

thank you!

"Rome" is my favourite à la Dumas story of two ancient Roman musketeers. Whatever is happening in Rome, Pullo and Vorenus are sure to be involved!!!!

Exactly! Every time I see Pullo or Vorenus, well, really Pullo and Vorenus in their oh-so-manly friendshipness together I feel all happy and giddy inside. Those two affect my system like sugar, they go in, make me all hyper and giddy, and I don't know where it all goes but I want more! It's like Batman and Robin only they have swords and are wearing fancy manly skirts.

The icons are just lovely, I snagged all the ones with Pullo and/or Vorenus in them. Will credit.

I have to say though that Agrippa is somehow winning over my heart and soul with his oh-so-endering overtures at Octavia. I am torn between motherly petting affection and snogging my senseless.

Apparently my brain no longer talks to my fingers. Let's try that last bit again, shall we...

I am torn between motherly petting affection and snogging him senseless.

And the latest episode!! When Vorenus was all “my fiend this” and “my friends that” to Octavian. OMPH!! I was squeeing inside. I am so ready for some happy adventures of my favorite duo. Like making a corpse raft. :D And not wearing too many clothing helps IMHO. :D

Exactly. I am also fully getting into the love for the trio Ocatvian/Agrippa/Maecenas. Male friendship is totally my thing!! (But Agrippa is my favorite of course. He is a poet at heart!)

ohmygoodnessohmygoodness I'm so THRILLED to find someone doing lovely Rome icons!! I want to do them every week, but my source isn't so great, and I don't want to use bad caps :P took Octavia and Agrippa from this lot--and the Octavia with bowed head--ohhh I'm so excited to see what other lovely icons you have!

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2007-02-27 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much!!! I find it very difficult to work with the screencaps from .avi files too, but I can't wait. :D I don't seem to be able to stop myself from making icons. Especially of lovely Agrippa nad Octavia , but I am afraid there is so much heartache for them ahead!
