I know this is late, I've been so busy, but I had to come back and comment lol.
I read the Hunger Games series earlier this year, and overall enjoyed it. The first two books were a lot better than the final one imo though, I really enjoyed the role reversal between Katniss and Peeta as well.
I never heard of Battle Royale or any controversy over the similarities between the two though, I think it would be understandable to not have heard of them as an author. The publisher is the one you would think might have...
As for the movie, I am very skeptical. I just don't know how the brutality of the books will be able to come through in the movies, I feel like it could very easily get the "hollywood" treatment, where the political and human rights parts are brushed over by the need for action and explosions.
