Personality test!!

We had a "team building" event at work, doing Myers-Briggs Personality tests. This was rather interesting and surprising!

My test came as:

ENTP, which stands for:

Extrovert - "I like getting my energy from active involvement in events and having a lot of different activities. I’m excited when I’m around people and I like to energize other people. I like moving into action and making things happen. I generally feel at home in the world. I often understand a problem better when I can talk out loud about it and hear what others have to say.

THIS WAS A SURPRISE (even though I didn't score too high here). I always though of myself as an introvert! And then all my work colleges started saying that I indeed a total extrovert, and I was "OH?? REALLY??" and still not being at all convinced. The trainer, who knows me a bit from the previous courses I had with him also said "Yep. I think you are an extrovert". THIS MADE ME THINK. Learning something new about yourself at my age? Interesting!

Intuitive - Preference for taking in information through a "sixth sense" and noticing what might be (as opposed to concentrating of facts and figures): Ideas, Big picture, Imaginative, Abstract and Theoretical.

Thinking - Preference for organising and structuring information to decide in a logical, objective way (as opposed to a personal, value-based way): Focus on cause and effect, logic, task.

Perceiving - Preference for living a spontaneous and flexible life (as opposed to planned and organised life).

Although I am still not sure about the Extroversion part, the rest is SO ME:

Quick, ingenious, stimulating, alert, and outspoken. Resourceful in solving new and challenging problems. Adept at generating conceptual possibilities and then analyzing them strategically. Good at reading other people. Bored by routine, will seldom do the same thing the same way, apt to turn to one new interest after another.

Every time I do any version of this I'm an INFP. It really fits me, too. If I ever got E as the first letter I think I'd die of shock, LOL!

You are totally a person I tend to think of when I imagine a Feeling person.

I have never done this before, I just assumed that I am an introvert. I am not at all lover of parties, you know, and neither I have LOTS of friends (I have some, but not huge amounts). :D I like parties, but I like other things too. But at the same time, I am never afraid to speak out.. so who knows? May be I am an extravert?

I'm INTP!

When I was younger I could go either way on T/F and P/J, but in the past few years, I've settled into INTP pretty well.

I always get INTJ which sometimes I wonder if it fits me. But I've been an INTJ since I was 16 and have taken the same exam at least 3 times.

We are almost the same! Apart from the Extroversion part (but I am still not convinced).

I have read somewhere that all personality tests really aren't that suitable for children/young people, as the personality is still in the development stage. makes sense to me..

I don't know you at all well, but N and T sounds about right? But I was told that if you really strongly disagree with the result, you need an individual session - you might be right!

[identity profile] sternflammenden.livejournal.com 2011-11-03 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm usually an INTJ, but I used to be an INFJ when I was younger! These are interesting but I'm not sure how accurate they are to measure job performance.

I'm an INFP, too. *high fives*

I think the MB test says very nice things about you, Alexandral.

[identity profile] oresteia.livejournal.com 2011-11-03 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I just think the NT are uh countering of each other. Like I'm totally an I and I'm most definitely a T but the J I'm not sold on and the N- I'm like not totally about at all. The J is really biggest one I go "I don't think I'm really that judgmental".

[identity profile] vetica.livejournal.com 2011-11-03 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting!

Where can I take this test?

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-11-03 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
it is definitely very interesting! In our place, these aren't meant to measure job performance - it was a team-building exercise meant to make us think that not everyone does the things the way the other person thinks, and also to take away any "guilt" connected to any of the types. I always knew I am a "last minute" person and have always viewed this as a bit of a shortcoming, even though my performance is usually quite high. It was nice to be told that nothing is really wrong with this type of a personality, that there are some advantages, for example, I handle stress really quite well.

I think there are some free ones on the Internet (I googled "free test Myers Briggs" and there seem to be some around), but the one we took was a "professional" one for which our Uni paid to some certified company. I am not sure if there is that much difference between free and "certified" ones. the theory has been around for ages!

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-11-03 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, the way we were explained NT doesn't really counter out each other at all:

N is about the way your tend to think. the example being that N people tend to think in big concepts, not really looking into detail much.

T is about the way you make decisions: Ts are people who often first look for logical decisions (overlooking the people factor) .

And I is not about being "judgemental", it is about being "organised" person. The terminology is confusing, but none the less this is what we were told..

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-11-03 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, I know I always overlook the "people" factor, I know this weakness about myself. I am always thinking "This is the most logical way to go. SURELY EVERYONE MUST SEE IT" and getting surprised that NOT everyone sees the most logical way as the best. lol.

[identity profile] oresteia.livejournal.com 2011-11-03 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the thing there are really different interperations of what they mean. I mean detail-less totally isn't me but I tend to look at the bigger picture than just short term...

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-11-03 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I had a look today at some MBTI websites and the explanations seemed to be quite similar (in different words?). I am so geeky - yes, I totally did some research. :D

[identity profile] oresteia.livejournal.com 2011-11-03 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know, maybe I just don't understand it but when I read them, I get different things from various websites. I mean I don't remember the one I took at school or at work but they were same test so they probably had the same results.

But like when I browse for stuff I get different idea based on the same concept. The cycnicst in me though could reason it's because I never see things one way.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-11-03 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, I think this is my "big concepts" thing is talking because for me they all talk about the same thing, sometimes writing paragraphs about something that can be conveyed in two words. But nonetheless, the main idea seems to be the same?

I'm ENFJ (http://www.personalitypage.com/ENFJ.html) pretty much every time I had to take this. Except that one INFJ time that I'm sure was some kind of mistake :D

[identity profile] sternflammenden.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
I like that idea - everyone is different & everyone is valuable.

Too often here it is used as a screening criteria for hiring, and that's just silly.

[identity profile] frivol.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
I'm an INFP too. It came out the same every time I've done it. It was the most useful thing I did in my previous life in an office environment, as it helped me to understand the different approaches people had to meetings, interactions, planning, etc.

:)

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, I hate this test so much. I just don't fit into it, in any way. For most questions there are several options that fit me perfectly, and depending on which ones I randomly pick, I have had the most varying results. It's not even funny. ;)

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
ENFJ sounds fitting in many respects (although , of course, I don't know you too well).

I suspect one can get "different" results on a bad day!

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Our trainer who does these kind of things is also A Darling, one of those guys that are just niiiiiiiice.

I think it is crazy to use this test as screening criteria - I only did it once, but I bet you my bottom dollar I can "achieve" any results if I want to. Many questions seemed.. self-explanatory.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely! I also thought it to be such a useful thing for understanding/appreciating the difference.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
YOU CAN NOT BE MEASURED. This is awesome! We also had one of our colleagues who said that she always gets different results (although in her case I was quite positive that I "know" what type she is, but I must have been wrong!)

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
haha, yes, I am beyond measure. ;) I just find the categories of this personality test so utterly dumb. And I don't fit into a neat introvert-extrovert box because I'm both pretty much equally. ;)

[identity profile] nutmeg3.livejournal.com 2011-11-07 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree completely about its usefulness. "They" have made us do all kinds of similar exercises over the years, but this is by far the most helpful. And some wer utterly useless.
