*feels peaceful*

I love so much that soundtrack :). I heart "Winter is coming" in particular. There's something very haunting about it.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
It is quite a peaceful piece, I agree, but there undertones always unsettle me (in a good way).

Edited 2011-07-18 10:17 (UTC)

[identity profile] lydzi.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh definitely!: There's something very deep underneath that makes you feel that Winter can be pretty dangerous too.

The all soundtrack is pure gold. Some pieces are just so emotional. Victory does not makes us conqueror has an underneath deep sadness too in it that always brings me chills.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
You know my obsession with Winter, right? :D

I seem to always have a Pavlovian reaction to any parts of GoT soundtrack : "OBSESSED!!YESSSSSSSS!"

[identity profile] raikune.livejournal.com 2011-07-17 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the one done with many violins...so amazing.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, I loved that one too. Someone on Youtube was suggesting for all the artists to get togethe . ** laughs**

[identity profile] lydzi.livejournal.com 2011-07-17 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh and I don't know if you already saw this or not but it just became my favourite GoT fanvid:

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
I absolutely adore that video.

[identity profile] dianora77.livejournal.com 2011-07-17 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that was gorgeous! I love the moodiness of it!

This one's my favourite:

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
I think violins really suit the music.

[identity profile] earenwe.livejournal.com 2011-07-17 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
There's just something about this theme, that no matter which version of it I hear, that always evokes a strong emotion whether it be happiness or sadness or what have you.

So beautiful.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely, it is such a complex piece as well, I always seem to discover something new in it.

[identity profile] nutmeg3.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
It really is gorgeous, isn't it?

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
I get a Pavlovian reaction to it - everytime I hear it my GoT obsession is re-inforced.

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
Gorgeous. Though I like this version even better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yydcG9woWA But it's a beautiful theme in any version.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
That version is AMAZING,. I love it too.

Also, in unconnected - that icon always brings a smile to my face.

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:27 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, it's my happy icon. Mark Strong smiling is just such a rare, beautiful thing. Glad you like. :D

[identity profile] lydzi.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
Mark Strong needs to come asap to GOT casting <3
I know everyone wants him to Stannis (he would be perfect yep) but I wouldn't mind him as Victarion either actually :p.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
NOOOOOOOOOOO! He is too old for Victarion. I want Idris Elba for Victarion and will not stand for less ( http://goodfilmguide.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Idris-Elba.jpg ).

he will make a nice Stannis, though

[identity profile] lydzi.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
Huh how old is supposed to be Victarion? I always pictured him to be around 40 tbh. And the life in the Pyke Islands is rougher.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
I thought 35-40 ish, but not older than that, he still can kill people with bare hands;D. I think he is described somewhere as very tall and strong, axe-wielding type. Idris Elba iss 40 though.

[identity profile] lydzi.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yep and a couple of time is described with a flat muscled stomach and *insert glee and fangirlism*

Lol. I don't know. Idris Elba looks very good and I wouldn't mind his body on my screen XD but I always pictured every Greyjoy very pale, dark ébene hair a bit messy because of the salty winds and blue striking eyes. That's why I was a bit bumed out when I first saw TV!Theon. He looks nothing like a Greyjoy. Those people are vikings practically (minus the blond hair).

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
VIKINGS!!! - My brain switches off and fangirlism continues.

Yes, I don't think Idris Elba fits the physical description, but there is just something about him that fits my understanding of the charcter (apart from flat stomach). He plays conflicted very well.

I pictured them to be dark, as in dark hair and olive skin, don't know why.

[identity profile] lydzi.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
They need to give us casting names asap. I'm dying about Davos, Stannis and the Greyjoys here.

I wish I could have Mads Mikkelsen for Euron but I guess that's too much asking #sigh#...
And then Nikolaj will be able to talk danish on the set XD.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
Me too! But I am scared they are going to rename Asha as they said. :(

OMPH! Mads would have made my perfect Euron, he does crazy so well! ** fingers crossed ** I don't see James Purefoy in this role (as some suggested), though, NOT AT ALL. I love the guy but he does not have a gravity of a viking.

[identity profile] lydzi.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think Purefoy would fit for any Greyjoy either as much as I love him. The first time I heard it I was happy then after 5 min I was "oh wait not for the Greyjoy's".

I believe he would make a very good Mance Rayder on the other hand.

They better not carry that rename thing. It's ridiculous not to mention insulting to the viewers intelligence.

Mads would be so incredible. I don't even know why the fandom isn't all over this but people are more looking for the Stannis/Mel/Davos cast so it's only fair.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I would welcome Purefoy as Mance Ryder, he will fit PERFECTLY. You have the best castings.

I WANT MADS SO BADLY I AM GOING TO MAKE A PICSPAM THIS WEEK.

I am not so worried about Stannis, but I'd like a nice Davos. Please, HBO Powers to be, a nice ginger-haired Davos?

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh God, Mads Mikkelsen would be incredible, although it's not at all how I imagined Euron. Tbh I imagined Euron less serious and with more trolling, and somehow I think Mads would play him more seriously. But I want someone with more of a smile on his face to play Euron. He's a pirate troll, he must smile! ;D

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I imagine Euron sort of like Mads was in "Casino Royale".

Also, I must re-watch Valhalla Rising .

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Mhm, yeah. Makes sense. But I still won't be too disappointed to see someone else in the role. I hope they won't cut Damphair from the show, he's hilarious. Actually I find all of the Greyjoys hilarious, I just can't take any of them seriously.

Haven't seen that one. The title alone sounds like fun, though.

[identity profile] geeklee.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
i like the idea of idris elba! no, he's not what i think of when i think of vikings but he does have the roughness and fiercesome-ness.

and this series is in desperate need of diversity! even the dothraki, a people supposedly copper skinned, were very european looking!

of course this will never happen since theon was already cast and is, wait for it, european.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
I think it is all good and dandy to cast the characters as close as they look in the books, but I honestly wouldn't have minded them to through the physical descriptions out of the window and give us more diversity.

I want Idris Elba for any other role, if I can. ;D

Dothraki were a a bit too European for my tastes - why go through all the trouble of creating a new language if you are going to cast white-looking folks? My mind boggles.

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
He wouldn't make a bad Victarion, but his acting talent would be wasted there ... not to mention that everyone would be confused by him looking more like Stannis than whoever plays stannis. ;D

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking about this last night , I think he would have done a FABULOUS Euron.

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
I think he'd make a fabulous everyone, at least as long as the looks halfway fit (with hair and make-up und all). We could just cast Mark Strong in several roles, no? ;)

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
I am sure I have said this somewhere, but he is EXACTTRLY how I imagine Stannis.

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It's funny how it took me ages to realise that, because Stannis is my favourite ASOIAF character and Mark Strong is my favourite actor. But now that I finally noticed, I really wish there will be a miracle and Mark Strong randomly decides to ignore half his movie career to play Stannis. Very likely, I know. But he would be so perfect... that man can ACT. As in make 90% of actors look like amateurs.

He is also ridiculously hot and has the most beautiful hands. *points to icon*

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
** laughs ** I thought it was your "Stannis also smiles" icon. Everyone seems to want him for Stannis, including me. If this turns out to be truth I will turn into such a Stannis stan (sounds good - Stannis stan).

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, no, I had that icon before I even knew who Stannis was. I love Mark Strong, I've seen so much of his work and he's really one of the best actors I've ever seen in anything. Watch The Long Firm, if you haven't yet. It's one of the few things in which Mark actually plays the lead and not just a small role. And while he can nail a role with just three minutes screen time, he does even better when he gets a more important part.

If they somehow manage to get him for the role, my joy will know no bounds. I'm almost wishing here that Mark's career hadn't taken off so much in the last years, what with him getting one movie part after the other.
I hate the word "stan", but it's oddly fitting for Stannis. ;D

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
** laughs ** See, I made all that up. I was fond of him always, but he was a total scene-stealer in "Sherlock Holmes".

I WOULD LOVE to have him as Stannis. Another favourite choice of mine is Christopher Eccleston , again, if he joins the show as Stannis, I will be the biggest Stannis fan in the universe.

I hate the word "stan", but it's oddly fitting for Stannis. ;D

I am not fond of it too, I am so old fashioned. And the next time someone is going to use the world flawless - I might scream. I like the word, but it is used too often.
Edited 2011-07-19 09:39 (UTC)

[identity profile] linndechir.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. I adored him so much in Sherlock Holmes (and him having the cutest, most evil fluffy sidekick ever was another plus). It impresses me that he steals every scene he's in, ad yet he still never makes the other actors look back. It's impressive.

Christopher Eccleston would be good, too, I wouldn't mind him, of all the possible actors whose names I've heard thrown around. Unfortunately people often suggest actors who are way too old. Even considering that the show ages everyone up (Stannis, like Ned&Robert, is in his mid-30s, but they were also placed by actors in their 40s ... or even 50s by now?) ... I don't want an old guy past 60 to play Stannis, it would just look weird.

Haha, I'm okay with "flawless", although it is a bit overused. But "stan" makes me want to throw things at people. Especially when used as verb.

[identity profile] nebula99.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I can second that - spine-chilling. Although I do love all the versions.

[identity profile] marinshellstone.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the main title, but was fairly unimpressed with the rest of the music in the show. It felt very scaled back and not present in the mix, which is not really the composer's fault - I've had that happen to me where I've gone to screenings of movies I've scored and the music is dialed down so far back into the mix you can barely hear it. I kept wanting *more* at all the climactic moments.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I like many other parts of the soundtrack too (when I listen to it separately), but I absolutely agree - I feel that in 95% of the scenes there is no music AT ALL, just silence, which gives everything an odd theatrical effect. Which might have been what the creators aimed for, but this does not work for me, somehow all the lines spoken by actors feel odd without background music.

i am glad you mentioned this, actually, this is one of my pet dislikes.

Also, personally I would have liked to have some songs in the show, not too many, but some Iris or Celtic songs would have been perfect.

[identity profile] geeklee.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
thanks for this post!

i played all the versions here while i was reading adwd!

wonderful.

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank YOU so much sweetie!!

I am reading ADWD very slowly. I don't want it to end. :D
