Lobbyist + swallow the sun = wallow in man-pain

My heavy obsession with "Midas" sent me off on the path of watching as many dramas written by Choi Wan Kyu as I can find. [livejournal.com profile] blueocean80 and I made a pact to watch one episode of "Swallow the sun" a day and I also re-started "Lobbyist" from the beginning. I whizzed through "Lobbyist" 2 years ago, but it didn't catch my attention back then. Now it seems that my tastes have changed towards dramas that have plot (as opposed to dramas that revolve around a romantic story), so I thought to give it a try again.

I have watched the episode 1 of "Swallow the sun" and the episodes 1,2, and 3 of "Lobbyist" yesterday and am happy to report that I am loving both.

Swallow the sun:

It is hard to tell what the mains story is about yet as the episode 1 was a part of the old events. It mostly told us an old story about a girl falling in love with an escaped convict, conceiving a child , having a baby and giving the baby away. I think the girl was the main character's (Kim Jung Woo, played by Ji Sung) mother, but we will see how it all develops. The short-lived romance between Mi Yeon and the convict whose name I didn't catch was poignant and beautiful. But it makes one wonder how sane should a person be to fall in love with an escaped convict.

The interesting moment was the explanation of the drama's title "I Swallow the sun for you" - apparently this is a version of "I will get the moon and the stars for you ", meaning "I will do anything for you". I have been always wondering what that means - interesting!

The main reason to watch Swallow the sun (apart from twisty plot):

Lobbyist

The first two episodes also contained Maria and Harry's back story. I thought that the part of it that was set in Korea was really strong. Maria's father discovers a Northern Korean submarine with spies on board, reports it to the authorities, but later gets the blame because the Navy doesn't want to look like idiots : "if a civilian found the submarine, where was the Navy? . Harry's father died in the military conflict with the spies, so Harry and his sister had to immigrate to USA. Maria's family was conned by an acquaintance and immigrated (illegally) to USA as well. This was the good part, but after that the story continues in the USA and becomes a little bit too over the top as well as hard to believe. I had a particular difficulty to believe that Maria's father (an illegal immigrant) was able to obtain a driving license. The level of accents both maria and Harry have is also unbelievable for someone who lived in the country for years.

Anyways, there was plenty of plot in the first three episodes and I love both Maria ( Jang Jin Young ) and Harry (Song Il Gook).

The main reason to watch Lobbyist:

Oh okay, thanks! I've just noticed WITHS2 released the first few eps of 49 days and omg I've been waiting for them for sooo long.

Are you watching/going to watch it?

I find I prefer to watch dramas when they already subbed fully, even when I like them. I am so inpatient. Take Midas - it is driving me mad that I can't go forward.

So yes, I am going to check 49 days when it is finished!

Jackson's and Jung-woo's mainpain, omg! :((((((((((((((((

When whatshername and Jungwoo said goodbye, that was sad. She wanted him to stop her and he wanted to stop her but didn't think he had any rights. Oh sweet lord, Jung-woo, why are you this self-sacrificing? Just let the girl make her own decisions?

and OMGOMG the detective got stabbed. I hope he pulls through because I really like the guy.

I still don't like Manager Baek even if his backstory is sad.

And I'm fairly sure the fishing boat guy is not Jung-woo's dad. I think he could be the guy who was friends with Il-hwa, the one who called him "hyung-nim"? So that leaves the evil chairman as possible father for Jung-woo. Or...wait, wait, maybe the other guy? The BFF/Archenemy of the evil chairman? Nah, it can't be him. Who else then? OMG this issue is driving me insane, no kidding

Re: Tae-kyun. Huh, so now he's a brat with money and power who thinks he has the right to mess up Jung-woo IN SPITE of what JW did for him. Brilliant! /sarcastic.

I cried when Jackson cried.

I am still very cold towards whashername. I was a little glad she has gone, I was all "manpain! YAY!

I am keeping my fingers crossed for the detective guy.

I know who the father is, but I won't tell! Noooooooooo!

Tae-kun is going the same way his father is going: manipulating people.

Me too, me too. And Kang-rae (that's his name, right? Jung-soo's BFF?) was like, "But he looked like he was crying!" No, really, Sherlock? ^^ Poor Jackson. I'm confidant Amy and he will get back together. *crosses fingers*

I'm still indifferent to her, but at least she showed some emotions after her date with Jung-woo. I feel a bit less "meh" toward her.

Me too, but...I'm afraid the writer will randomly kill people and so I'm trying to keep my hopes low.

GAHHHHH. It's dirving me insane, but it's the good kind of insane? Thank you for listening to my ramblings and not spoiling me. ♥♥♥♥

ACK! I hate when a character that had potential to be good and caring turns into, well, not good and caring.

The guys are seriously adorable. I think Jackson may be needs a bit of a shake-up: I think he was taking Amy for granted.

I think for me it is a Lee Wan thing. I love Lee Wan and I want to see him playing a good character. But I think Tae Hyuk has some potential for redemption. We will see.

IKR? I love Jung-woo's gang. They really do feel like family. I love that kind of feeling.

When Jackson said something along the lines of "she's better off that way" I sniffed. That was gut-wrenching.

I haven't watched many things with Lee Wan, but I really did love his performance in Once upon in Seoul. Then again, he was with SCU and akjdlsdjflsdf SCU is one of my biases so there's that.

OMPH! Boys hugging! So so pretty!

I have seen Lee Wan as a lead in many things: Let's Go To The Beach (fluffy coming of age drama), Snow White (this is a really good one, actually) and Tree on Heaven (very melodramatic melodrama). I have seen him also in @in Soon is pretty@ where he is a secondary guy (but with his own OTP). It is the first time I see him to play a kid of evil role.

You have no idea how many SCU-Lee Wan pics there are out there. I swear there are more than SCU-Lee Sang-woo and you'd think that with LiB under their belt there'd be more shots of them together? But no. /o\

For some reason I wasn't drawn to any of those. Hmm.
