Summer's desire episode 3 : they all are crazy, aren't they?
"Summer's desire" is this Summer's guilty pleasure. There is so many things wrong with everyone in this drama, but I am obsessively watching it on viikii as soon as episodes appear; I also can't stop thinking about the characters, so may be the drama is not all just guilty pleasure:
The cap below is, in my opinion, something that describes the whole drama in one shot: Luo Xi is obsessed with Xia Mo, to a very unhealthy degree, but she is in love with someone else (Ou Chen), only she thinks she is not because she has huge scars from her childhood and she is afraid of commitment.
It doesn't help that Ou Chen is a spoiled rich man (whose upbringing included him shooting at various people with arrows , and no-one ever stopped him from doing so) who has got used to getting everything just the way he wants, even when he end up damaging his own relationships. I think Ou Chen is not beyond repair because although he has fits of "you belong to me" rage, he is also shown as someone who can be a giving (and even easy to manipulate) person, so far it has been as if he is saying one thing and doing another. But we will see.

Luo Xi is clearly a basket case, though. He speaks about death and suicide as easy as you and I speak about having a cup of tea and tells these kind of things to his girlfriend : "You are a poison to me..." . I wouldn't have minded if he said something like once or twice, but these are almost the only things he tells her. Theirs is a weird relationship, it has no "normal" couple interaction at all. They either kiss (in a very hot way) or he tells her she is poison.
I mean, in normal circumstances I would have thought of the cap below "OMPH! Hot! Sexy! Biting", but add to the equation the fact that they are doing it right in the front of Ou Chen, and everything becomes weird . Plus Xia Mo is doing it mainly for Ou Chen's benefit (she wants to push him away) anyways:

Ou Chen has to stay undressed and wet, he looks much prettier this way:

He should angst, hit things with his bare hands and bleed more often too:

I stand by my opinion that the protagonists, all three of them, need to get majorly fixed before they are in any sort of a relationship. I think Xiaomo is the most damaged but she is at least functional, Luo Xi is just totally broken (moral of the story, do not dump kids in the orphanage? I could go with that). Ironically, OC is best adjusted of the lot and that is pretty scary.
I think Xiamo's inability to open up is the crux of the story - it's in large part why highschool disaster happened IMO and now I see the same pattern repeat in her relationship with Luo Xi - she seems to be genuinely attracted to and like him but she cannot allow herself to show it fully or to feel it fully. Until she learns to let down her barriers, her relationships with anyone, OC, LX, or some random guy we haven't met, are all doomed.
I don't get why she doesn't just tell OC - look, we dated, I broke up with you after a fight, I don't feel like saying more. And not string it out until he gets the pictures, but back way in the hospital. I mean, fine, LX wants revenge, but she does not - who starts making out with another guy as soon as you were asked out, right in his face?

Xia Mo can function , but she can't be happy and she keeps hurting everyone around her. I was fuming at the voice over at the beginning when she said "This is all my fault", but really so many things from what happened at the high school was her fault. She strung along both LX and OC. In a very werid way (I have such a strange relationship with this drama) I like this now - her's is a position of power and I like this.

I agree again - she tries to like LX, but she just can't , she is very much attracted (who wouldn't ?) but she ends up really hurting him , IMHO he would have been much better off kept at an arm's length rather than always feeling that she is not present in their relationship. He is already incredibly damaged and this does not help.
The kissing in the hospital was sooooooo wrong for me too, and not just because she didn't tell the truth, but because 1) why did she want to hurt OC so much? 2) it is a bit weird to be kissing in a front of someone 3) why does she want to bring trouble on herself and her bf? OC is clearly not a soft rug, why try to infuriate him rather than explain what has happen (which might have made him feel guilty?)
I am so obsessed with this - I am going to try to find the novel on-line.

Xiaomo/Luo Xi are a really really bad pairing not because they are awful people or are not attracted to each other or whatever (because I don't think any of that is true) but because both are majorly damaged in a very similar way. Xiamo needs someone very mentally healthy and secure to be able to deal with her, and the last thing Luo Xi needs is someone who canot commit or truly show love - he needs someone who would love him very openly and very wholeheartdly (and also someone not messed up). They are damaged in too similar a fashion, at least OC's brand of damage is different.
I have not seen the novel on line but the manga, called Show Princess, has been partially scanlated and is available on placed like mangatraders.com

yes, she could have just said that he did something bad to her she can't forgive him.

** nods ** But I also think that from the beginning, the fact that Xiamo can't like him fully attracts LX even more. If she was all over him, he (because he also really doesn't know what to do in a committed relationship) would have probably got over her quickly.
Ou Chen reminds me of Domyoji, a classical type of a spoiled rich kid, even a softer version of Domyoji. He just needs someone standing up to him.
I tried my best searching skills, it seems that the translation of the novel is not available yet.
but thank you very much for the manga tip - I am going to be all over it!

Bad Guy: I am so loving it. Kim Nam Gil is my number 1 at the moment. :D
I always talk TOO much, gah!
Re: Dong-yi. She certainly seems interested in him, but I'm not so sure where tptb are going with him. I'm up to date with all the subs released by WITHS2 (22 eps. I avoid Viikii; I don't like watching stuff online, no matter how good subs are) and so far? He has no love storyline which is starting to irk me. Chunsoo needs some lovin'! I REALLY hope there's going to be a King Sukjong/Dong-yi/Chun-soo triangle, which I think is a lot more interesting than the triangle with Lady Jang, BUT if that indeed happens and fails (bound to), I think Chunsoo will eventually end up with Dong-yi's friend. I hope he gets his happy ending too. Oy, that's just my gut-feeling. I'm still completely spoiler-free.
WORD on KNG! I love him. Dude, I have no idea how I'll cope when he starts serving too. >_> The withdrawal will be awful!

I just hope BSB lands another role as THE male lead soon, possibly in a romcom. I'd be happy if he were paired with Han Hye-joo again (there are sooo many shippers who would die happy if that were to happen and if they finally, FINALLY were to see them getting together onscreen), but if it's not her? That'd be ok, too. As long as he gets the girl at some point in his career. LOL

he did get the girl in "Angel's Temptation", though, in fact he got two (even three). :D The ending is more complex than straight-out-romantic, but the ladies were mad about him. It was a really high ratings drama too.
