Sleep report/Report on watching Bones
Jan. 11th, 2007 05:00 pmSleep report Finally sleep deprivation due to Asian drama overdose caught up with me yesterday. We had a big “Vision” meeting combined with “Not your Christmas Dinner” lunch for our department yesterday. Somehow it happened that I was made to/volunteered to report our tables’ view on student coaching experience and ideas to the rest of the BIG audience. EEEEE! I was thoroughly embarrassed but my colleagues said that I sounded "very confident". I hope so, but I think they are just trying to be polite. :D
Because I came home early after the meeting I had a chance to put my head down and just switched off for an hour. I could have stayed asleep, but was carried to the church meeting by my dearest dear. And then I again switched off on the way back and stayed switched off until morning. Sleep deprivation is a scary thing. :D I feel a lot better today!!!
Bones. Poll
I have watched two episodes of "Bones" season 1. I am not sure yet because some of the very good people I know love this show so there must be something in, but it seems that into the two episodes span creators managed to fill as much cliches as it was possible:
+ Main heroine (Temperance Brennan by Emily Deschanel) is stroppy but terribly brilliant
+ Heroine’s parents died/disappeared under unclear circumstances
+ The Hero (Special Agent Seeley Booth by David Boreanaz) is burly and has a snarky OTP with the heroine
+ There is an episode involving heroine appearing in the hero’s apartment unexpectedly and him opening the door half-dressed. And of course there is a skanky lawyer lady in that apartment too.
+ There is an episode involving an Arabian terrorist.
+ The Science can solve any crime. (This is actually worrying me – Though admittedly technology and science play more and more role recently, but I think in the recent abundance of shows like CSI the reality of police work, the importance of normal police methods as deduction, observation, collecting of the evidence and interrogation are getting largely underrated and I am getting a little upset for the real Police)

Date: 2007-01-11 05:22 pm (UTC)I just hope none of the "Bones" fans will hate me for this. It's not that I think "Bones" is bad - I just have no interest in science based crime-shows.
I am getting a little upset for the real Police)
I think Bunk & co would appreciate this! ;D
Also I'm sure you did well on with your report, and that your colleagues are not just being polite. Though I understand you being nervous. I'm not too fond of talking in front of a large audience myself.

Date: 2007-01-11 05:37 pm (UTC)This is a good point - I think I am also generally more interested in the down-to-earth work of Police then in science based crime-shows. They are nice to watch, but just doesn't grip me somehow. May be because there is always less emphasis on the character development in them.
Also I'm sure you did well on with your report
Thank you so much, dear!!

Date: 2007-01-11 05:36 pm (UTC)I see things all the time on my friends list in which I have no interest - believe me, everyone's interests are so diverse that there's no way we can all like the same thing :D Don't forget my irrational hatred of Pride? :D

Date: 2007-01-11 05:40 pm (UTC)I am always like this - many a time I leave a film/book in the middle because I feel I am not interested anymore. I know some people like to complete things, but I don't have a problem to leave show I watched for 3 years because I just don't see it as interesting anymore.
Thank you!!

Date: 2007-01-12 10:17 am (UTC)I must say - these are my feelings, only after a couple of episodes I can't take her seriously anymore. Her character is too over-done, too Mary Sue at the minute. I hope they will add some depth to it later.

Date: 2007-01-11 05:53 pm (UTC)I wouldn't say it gets better. There are some episodes that made me want to scream with rage. I actually missed a couple at the end of last season and just watched the finale because mom said it was good.
That being said, I stick with it for two reasons: David Boreanaz (hence I voted that way), and because it "takes place" in D.C. I live in D.C. and it is hilarious the way they portray the city. Cleveland Park does not have tumbleweeds or stand-alone houses. I know because I party there on a weekly basis. Also: no "high-rise" buildings in Columbia Heights.
At least they got the no-skyscrapers right!

Date: 2007-01-11 06:25 pm (UTC)I only watched 'Bones' on occasion, but from what I see, they're good. But agree with Grissom: "There are too many forensic shows on television." This one has a bit of a twist, and at least the whole cast is easy on the eyes. I did like the ep directed by David Duchovny a few weeks ago.

Date: 2007-01-11 10:45 pm (UTC)but no matter what you have to watch season three of The Wire- it's amazing! the final two episodes of S3 will devastate you- but in a good way. I just watched the first half of season four last week and I am dying to talk about it- so you need to catch up;)
