The Mentalist: Report
Sep. 24th, 2008 04:38 pmI am absolutely hooked. Thank you very much to everyone for recommending it
However, the first episode had more than average amount of traditional USA TV show stereotypes and common places. It had:
- A father who attempted to sexually abuse and then murdered his daughter ( can't be considered a spoiler because this as clear as day as soon as you see the father in question. No powers of deduction are needed).
- a killer-doctor (again, it is clear the doctor is the killer as soon as you see him)
- a bad-mannered genius
- a serial killer
- a serial killer who likes to draw pictures on walls with BLOOD.
- an agent from Asian descent who likes to do origami
- a confrontation between the bad mannered genius and a sexy-looking "religious fanatic"
- excessive use of eye rolling
This makes it 7 , one per every 6.43 minutes of the show which is a high score even for a Korean drama (I love Korean dramas).
But! The abundance of stereotypes and predictability are absolutely irrelevant when you have Simon Baker as bad mannered genius. In fact, these factors are an advantage because there is no clever plot or any such thing to distract you from all his blond tortured goodness (and his trusty waistcoat).

( Some more of Simon Baker )
