The Legend (First king's four gods) : Icons

"The Legend" (or "First King's Four Gods") is one of the best shows I have seen among Western, Asian or other period/fantasy dramas. Unforgettable. I haven't been that much in awe (and true awe, as in AMAZINGLY GOOD TV awe) since "Rome", I think. I'll try to talk about this show in a way it deserves later.. I haven't slept properly last night in a crazy icon spree. :D

But just in short, "The Legend" is one of the best TV shows I have seen because:

- AMAZING world building
- vivid and larger than life characters.
- costumes of fabulousness
- dialogue I want to quote now EVERYWHERE
- cinematography and battle scenes of greatness

Icons are free to share, please let me know if you would like any text added. I don't mind for icons being used elsewhere (not on LJ) but please don't hot-link.

The icons are awesome like always :) I'll watch this after I finish watching The Lobbyist.

Thank you, dear!!!! Is your icon from "The Book of Three Han"? On my love wave for wuxia dramas I am tempted to watch this. But it is something of 200 eps long, isn't it?

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2008-01-29 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Only 81.

I liked Jumong, but it moves much slower than Legend. It's not as involving IMO, but it is good.

Still - 80(!!!!) episodes. I need to consider this. And I guess there is not many kissing scenes there? Is it a wuxia concept (I mean even more reserve in kissing)?

Jumong...I am not sure I'd recommend. It is very very slow, and politics there make my eyes glaze a bit.

Maybe Emperor of the Sea? I haven't seen it, but I know [livejournal.com profile] meganbmoore loved it.

How about Hong Gil Dong? It's my favorite of currently airing dramas. It's very funny in the first two eps (almost slapstick) but gets serious pretty quickly and is very very good, with Robin Hood type stuff, and neat fights etc etc. I really recommend.

Hmm for politics.

Oh, Hong Gil Dong is totally calling me (and Capital Scandal too). As soon as I catch up on some sleep. :D I am watching "Trick" at the moment and this drama makes me very happy. ;D

I actually like the politics in Jumong :) But it does move very slow. I would also recommend Dae Jang Geum for your lovely Korean period drama. It stars the lovely Lee Young Ae (Sympathy for Lady Vengeance) and Ji Jin Hee (the Korean guy in Perhaps Love). There is colourful cinematography, sweet romance (but no kissing, LOL), cooking (!!) and palace politics. It's not as slow as Jumong but comparable in terms of length (it's probably 80-ish episode as well). Mind you, Dae Jang Geum is one of the highest rated EVER Korean drama in Korea itself ^^ The last ep had more than 30% of Korean viewers glued watching DJG!

Thank you very much for the rec! Is "Dae Jang Geum" also very long?

The kissing seems to be the point of "no" in Korean period dramas. I am fine with this if this is some kind of concept. :D

I see that you also liked "Lobbyist". I'll try to check this as well

Yes Dae Jang Geum is really long, perhaps as long as Jumong :D But I really liked it. It was my first ever Korean period drama, and I have adored Lee Young Ae ever since ^^ Eventhough there is no kissing, but there is still hugging and piggybacking, LOL. Yes! The Lobbyist! I love it so much. I still have quite a few eps to go, but so far I am loving it to bits. I'm keen to know how you will like it ^^

I think I'll give the longer wuxia pass for now, may be I'll watch this on holidays. I know that these dramas are very popular in Korea - I had a look at the ratings when I was watching "The Legend" and for the last 3 years the most popular dramas in Korea were the longer-running ones.

I see if I can start "Lobbyist" today - I watched "Robbers" yesterday but I didn't really like the main male lead.. :(

[identity profile] miss-dian.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Robbers - who is the lead male? I like Lee Da Hae a lot, and was thinking of watching it when the serial is complete already. I rather dislike watching a serial that is not complete yet coz I hate waiting for eps to come out :D

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I like her very much too! The male lead is Jang Hyuk - I have "met" a Korean guy I don't particular find attractive , lol.

[identity profile] miss-dian.livejournal.com 2008-05-23 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
I have watched Robbers and I agree. Jang Hyuk is... hmmm.. not as appealing as most Korean actors. But he seems to be a very good kisser :D

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2008-05-23 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a major plus. :D
