I don’t get really angry very often. Not at all. This is probably the first time I am ANGRY on LJ pages.

I HATE APPLE: Apple!!!!!!!!!!! I never liked the brand in the first place, for principal reasons, but now I have a reason to HATE IT PERSONALLY. I will dedicate my life to campaigning against this evil bunch. Why? The story goes like this:

1. My daughter dropped her ipod touch. She is fairly small, so the fall was quite small, BUT! The front glass smashed completely! I must say this never happened to me before! I tend to drop my phones, laptops and other devices, I am just prone to drop things. THIS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE. Once I dropped my mobile down a flight of stairs and it bounced all the way down. Did it smash? No - I got away with a scratch!

2. I remember something about "1-year warranty", so I go to the Apple store. THE ONLY APPLE STORE existing in West Yorkshire (Leeds/Sheffield area). There I have to stand in a queue for 1 hour ten minutes, in the store that was literally stuffed with people with broken laptops and iPhones.

3. I get told by a too-cheery sales guy (Why were you so cheery, the Apple guy? Was looking at the shop stuffed full with idiots who buy the rubbish Apple stuff for large sums of money cheer-inducing?): because the ipod is under 1 year old APPLE WILL DO ME A FAVOUR AND "replace" it for 119 pounds. IT IS MY FAULT (well, my daughter’s) that she DROPPED THIS VERY FRAGILE DEVICE. But did it come with "fragile" warning? NO IT DID NOT.

4. I feel that I was used and I do not like the feeling AT ALL.

I HATE THEM ALL. I hope Steve Jobs is turning in his grave somewhere in a special place reserved for people who cheat other people out of their money by brainwashing (please do not lecture me about respect, I am too materialistic to feel any respect after spending 119 pounds on "replacement"). I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM APPLE AGAIN AND I WILL TELL MY STORY TO EVERYONE.

5. I bought the iPod against my better judgement (my daughter has a peer pressure at school :D) , but paying 250f for something that obviously doesn't cost as much to produce I expected a better customer service. And how mistaken was i!

LJ hate
And today LJ has UPGRADED SOMETHING AGAIN and my Flexible Squares LJ layout is all weird, cutting off the images that don’t fit in the "square". I had to switch off "Disable customized comment pages for your journal" for now, and I also am getting "Content error" all the time. OK LJ. STOP BEING IDIOTS. STOP IT. LJ people - I know you are not as rich as "the father founders" of Apple, but I still do not like you. You have to stop this idiocy already.

PS: Insert selective swearing of your choice in my thoughts about Apple and LJ. This is one of those rare moments when I wish I knew how to swear.

Positive thoughts: My new Android phone
I have bought myself an Android phone! It was cheaper than the ipod "replacement" was. AND I LOVE IT. I don’t know why I haven’t done this for ages. It is like having a little computer in your pocket and it can do practically anything you want it too. I LOVE IT. It syncs with my Google account and is looooooovely.

Ugh, I know! Personally, I never had an iPod Touch/iPhone, but of the people I know that have one, at least 5 of them went through the exact same situation you did. The absolute worst. If my phone was like that I'd be screwed, as it seems to be particularly fond of flying. (Except it can't and it ends up on the floor.)

AND LJ IS JUST BEING THE WORST TODAY I CANNOT DEAL ANYMORE BRB GOING TO BED

And yay, congrats on your new phone! :D

I think the customers at least should be warned at the purchase about the fragility of the Apple products.

Lj has to man up!

Oh I actually never saw you in Greyjoy Kraken mode before. I'm going to hide all the axes just for a couple of hours ^^.

Ugh Apple stores are rubbish tbh. I never understood anything about them. And gosh 1h10 o_______________O. They should bring coffee and cake at this point.

LJ is acting all weird yes. I've been on it for the past hour and it's all cranky. I guess it's another of those times.

Android is good then? Because I need to buy something like an ipod for my mum for this Christmas and I have not the patience to go to the Apple store tbh. But then she also want to go and watch Mamma Mia so maybe I will give her that. I don't know. The hunt for presents begin :/.

Lol, I am a Greyjoy not for nothing!

depending on what you want to buy, I would rec:

- for an mp3 player, a little Sansa (I have heard good things about) or one of Walkmen.

- for a phone, an Android, especially HTC.

- or an Android tablet, they can be as cheap as 150 f, but I would have done some comparing reviews..

I, too hate apple products. I love our HTC Desire android phones and we bought an ASUS tablet rather than an evil iPad :)

I really like the look of HTC desires. I bought myself a cheaper Android, but I do like these. :D

I might buy my daughter an Android tablet for Christmas, I really like the idea.

Never had anything Apple, it's rare in my country... my phone is a Samsung, and I had to take it out and look it up! I don't give a fuck about electronic brands. Can I phone/sms on it? Then it will do.

They aren't as popular in Russia too, I think Russians seem to be less prone to waste money, they have less of these money..

When I bought the ipod touch for my sister and after hearing horror stories about it AND also taking in consideration how often my sis tends to drop things, I bought her a hard case and slapped a screen protector on top of the screen as well. Just in case. She HAS dropped it many times, but it didn't smash. We even removed the protective protector and even like this, it doesn't have a scratch on it. My ipod classic? Despite the hard case? Has some scratches on the back, but that's pretty much it. I guess with Apple it's a case of bad or good luck with any of their items.

As for LJ? I'm not even surprised.

What android phone did you get if you don't mind me asking? I'm looking into new models in case I want to get rid of the one I'm using (most likely. This was a gift and I HAAAAATE it)

I WISH I WAS WARNED. I think I am going to write to their customer service and ask for "Fragile" warnings to be attached to their stuff. I Googled before going and the breakability seems to be a common problem, but me? I HAD NO IDEA! I thought - something that cost 250f for a little device like that? should be fine! My new Dell (the one-piece one), for example, fell off the desk onto the concrete floor (this WAS my fault because I was fiddling with it and was half-asleep) and there is is literally NO SCRATCH. And the thing weights much more than the ipod does.

Anyways- I FUME.

I got the cheapest Android phone (this is me), called San Francisco which is the Orange own brand. Half of our guys have them, the half that is too stingy for HTC. HTC comes as recommended model by our gurus.

Which phone do you have? Is it Android? Because if you hate the Android Operational system, you might go for a different OS like Nokia's Symbian..

Ovi App Market (Nokia market) is not as big as Android or iPod, but Nokia is in contract with Windows so everyone is saying Nokia is going to grow? My husband is always fond of Nokias, so he has got a new Nokia 700 which is really slim and lovely..

I did bring this up on more than one occasion, but maybe that was before we met? *ponders* IDK. When I was making up my mind about my sister's gift, I talked about getting a hard cover on my journal for sure. When I have to fork out that much money, I always research a ton, watch reviews etc. That's because I'm paranoid but when I buy something, I'm usually 100 % satisfied with my purchase (I'm talking about electronics and tech gadgets. For some reason I don't research other products quite as much. I'm doing the same with the ereader I'm half considering buying) TLDR: I'm sorry you didn't know that some Apple users weren't satisfied adn that ipods do break.

It's an LG, but, as I said, it's a gift that the kid I used to tutor made her mom buy for me (her mom = my cousin. I never got a cent for all my lessons so the phone was sort of the payment for my time? IDK, something like that) and she chose it cos it had a ton of fun stuff for kids, which I don't use, and all the features I might use (ie internet. Or the apps) are wonky or don't even work. lakdjfaljd I used to have a Nokia, which, again was a gift, but at least that was an awesome phone, had great reception and it was customizable (it ran on Symbian and Java was fully supported), which the LG doesn't have. I've used the LG for a while not to disappoint the kid, but enough is enough. Besides, I'm not taking advantage of my phone plan with Internet included because of the LG's wonkiness. Also? My car HATES the new phone so I can't even use it when I drive (my car has this awesome feature). It's amazing how a phone can complicate your life! LOL

The problem of Nokia phones is that they don't support Asian languages. Or rather, they do, but you've got to buy them in Asia. Installing an additional language pack is next to impossible and I DO read/write stuff in Korean so my next phone? Can't be a Nokia, much as it pains me to admit that. But yeah, I think Nokia will grow and they are reliable and relatively cheap. It's the most reliable phone I've ever had.

I usually also do the same. In ipod touch case, I think my heart "wasn't in it". As I posed before, I don't like Apple for principal reasons, so forking out 230f on an Apple product felt like betraying my own principles, so I just .. you know.. tried to think as less about this as possible? ;D

I haven't heard anything good about LGs, to be fair. The phones that seem to get the most positive feedback from my friends and colleagues are HTC Desire, or the very cheap Orange own phones called San Francisco (here: http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/17454615/Orange-San-Francisco-Android-Pre-Pay-Pay-As-You-Go-Mobile-Phone-Inc-Free-10-Airtime-White/Product.html)

My San Francisco - to be honest, I am not that fussy because most of the time I am near a computer, so I wanted to get something VERY CHEAP. But it all seems to work very well - one of our guys upgraded the Android version for me, and I love the apps. I love checking my emails during the meetings, naps and shopping trips. Like, I open my eyes on the morining and I check my work calendar and emails? Priceless! I am not even using much of my Internet bundle - Wi-fi seems to be everywhere!

I mean your LG has Android system? Or not?

I would agree that I was brainwashed but I am in computers and thus a universal lover of almost everything tech and therefore am blinded by my passion. However, I have always felt that they charge unfairly for damaged products.

I broke my mobile once on vacation and the company that sold me it, gave me a new one for half price despite it being almost two years old. No complaints. Apple was like when my ipod broke "you can get a new one..." since well it was past date of return and nothing broke externally it was all them. I actually did buy a new one though- because I need music when I'm exercising.

Unfairly is a poor word for this. :D I bought the iPod against my better judgement (my daughter has a peer pressure at school :D) , but paying 250f for something that obviously doesn't cost as much to produce I expected a better customer service. And how mistaken was i!

I am a lover of everything tech and to tell the truth - this is the main "principal" problem I have with Apple, their "walled garden" business model that doesn't allow me do do anything with "my" device. I am a programmer, I like tinkering with things and I like control, which ipods or ipads don't let me to have.

I got the old iphone from my sister and the screen has broken twice (mr ginger bought a second one on ebay and replaced it himself because we were not going to pay!) and hiding it from my son, well it felt in the only no-carpeted floor of our flat and broke again. It's good it wasn't mine. I used some adhesive tape and there it is working properly but with the front glass broken.

I have my Android and it's the best thing ever! I love it to bits!!! Actually I dropped it once (before I bought the plastic protect cover it has now) and nothing happened, everything was okay...

LJ!.... I'm so mad that the errors and problems happen so frequently lately... I want the old LJ that didn't fail back!

I was tempted to replace the screen myself too, but I am not at all good at it. mr. Ginger sounds awesome. I saw some places on the Internet that offered to fix the iPod screens, but the price was around 50f, and one couldn't be sure about the result..

I seriously love this Android phone. The amount of apps on the Android market now is HUGE.

One of my friends used to work at an Apple store, and he always cautioned me about buying their products because they break very easily, and the repair process is always annoying/difficult. Between that & the white/minimalist aesthetic, I'm not a fan.

LJ just needs to get it together.

I think Apple had a leg to stand on when they first came in and were new, but now? With the amount of choice in mp3 players, tablets and smart phones? I believe you have to want to throw your money onto wind to buy one of them!

Since I joined in on your Apple rant the other day, you already know I'm a kindred soul. Though now that Sprint is offering the iPhone I'm tempted to at least try it, but I'm also wary for all the reasons we've discussed. And lj is totally pissing me off today. They'd better get it fixed soon. Grrrr.

Do they offer any of the upper-end Android phones, like HTCs? These phones still cost 1/3 of the iPhone price, but are BETTER. Do not throw 600f on the iPhone! The maximum the upper-end android Phones cost is around 250f. There are better way to spend the surplus 350f! (Yes I am still having strong feelings)

I have a high-end Evo and I like it, but it's pretty outdated now. And my upgrade price is the same for any comparable smartphone, so...sadly, it is tempting. But right now I don't feel the need to spend that kind of money (which I don't have readily available anyway) on any new phone.

I share your frustration about Apple devices: They're too fragile. So Apple expects you to buy some extra insurance for 50 Euros that'll cover your cost when the glass smashes. WTF!!!

I do think an iphone looks fancier than my Android phone and might have a few more tricks up its sleeve, but seriously, what good is it to me when it's broken all the time?
